Haha, yeah, I guess that actually makes sense...

I've got another question for the experts in here, if you don't mind. So, I’m thinking about grabbing that student starter package from JPMorgan Chase either tomorrow or the day after, but honestly, I’d probably only touch it if some kind of emergency popped up. Like, would I actually have to pay any fees if I just let it sit there and didn't use anything—you know, no credit card charges or dipping into an overdraft? Basically, I’d just want it as a safety net for something urgent since I'm still waiting on some cash to hit my account from other places. Also, how does all this stuff change once you aren't a student anymore?

Thanks!

Neither Amex nor any overdraft fees are going to cost you a dime. Once you graduate, I assume they'll probably phase out that specific student package and the card, but I wouldn't know for sure since I'm still a student myself. 😁

Thanks, and sorry if I'm asking any dumb questions here, but I guess I just really like being careful about this stuff 🙂

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to actually get an American Express card in the mail? I mean, I got my checking account and my overdraft protection set up almost instantly since I already had an account open with them...

Nah, they won't kill it unless you ask them to. I just graduated recently and hit up my bank to see what the deal was. They told me I could keep riding the student package wave—both the checking account and the Amex—for as long as I wanted. But, if I actually bother to switch my account status, I’d get those "perks," like a higher overdraft limit, better credit options, or even a "real" Amex. To change my status, the guy mentioned I'd need to bring in proof of full-time employment or maybe some pay stubs from the last three months—or something like that. Honestly, I didn't really care about that part; I'm perfectly happy with this setup because it does exactly what I need. The only real headache is that the Amex limit is tiny, but whatever. 🙂

What are the actual online banking capabilities included in this package? Specifically, it claims I have access to JPMorgan Chase lite online banking, yet I can't manage to log in at all—how is this supposed to work?

As far as I know, they phased that out a while ago—probably a year or more now. You can just set up Chase Mobile instead, which comes with a token for logging in. The fee is $2.75 a month, though you get a discount on that if you're using three or more of their services.

Interesting—supposedly it's gone, yet their website still lets you attempt a login. Not to mention the teller at the branch telling me "you're eligible for JPMorgan Chase Lite banking." Please—forget about free remote banking.

Thanks for the info.

It’s a bit smarter than that. 🤣
Since they don't even offer it on their own site.

So, I just got rejected for a student account—specifically an American Express card—and they won't give me a single reason why. It’s not like I have any outstanding debt or anything like that. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of nonsense before?🤷

Have you ever actually had an account with them before?

Super weird. Did they let you overdraw by $333 on your checking account and give you a Maestro installment plan up to $333?

I did get the Maestro card, though.😕

You should get a letter with your PIN in the mail, then just head over to the branch where you opened the account to pick up your card.
By the way, did they approve you for an $333 overdraft protection?
It’s honestly weird they didn't give you an American Express, since it seems like they auto-approve it for any regular student who signs up for that starter package.

Shrink the image.

Then you get nothing from the card, and now you can ask God why. Maybe people started running up costs without paying them off, so they tightened the rules a bit. 🤷
