I feel like I’ve dropped about five hundred posts here over the years, all venting about different struggles! For a while, a friend kept insisting I was just super anxious, so I went down a rabbit hole online reading up on anxiety and taking those little quizzes, only to realize that doesn't actually fit me at all. I thought maybe I was depressed for a bit too, but even that didn't quite hit the mark—I mean, there are definitely some elements there, but I'm nowhere near clinical depression.

The truth is, I've navigated some of the absolute worst stressors a person can face over the last three years, according to those official psychological scales professionals use. Between switching major careers twice, moving to a whole new city, and dealing with a serious illness and the loss of someone incredibly close to me... well, somehow I’m still standing! I haven't lost my cool, I'm working, I'm out of debt, and I'm definitely not in a psych ward. Sometimes I just don't feel overwhelmingly happy, mostly because after everything I've been through, it feels almost weird if I actually were.

Lately, I’ve hit this phase where it honestly feels like everyone around me is completely losing it, and I’m the only one left holding onto reality. People who have zero actual problems seem to manufacture all this massive drama. I have a friend of thirty years who constantly lists every single ache, pain, and allergy he has like it's a full-time job. Then there's the crowd that's totally uninterested in romance or anything physical. Another group thinks their entire identity is tied to their corporate job, and they absolutely lose their minds when they realize how replaceable they are and that big corporations don't give a damn about them. Then you've got people who think they're nothing if they aren't married with kids, and others who are desperately chasing fame just because their lives feel too quiet and uninteresting.

So then there's me, sitting there thinking, "Good grief, you guys are all insane!" My only real goal in life is to have a nice, modest, middle-of-the-road existence. I just want a relationship where nobody is terrorizing me with nonsense, a steady job that pays the bills, and enough peace of mind to make sure I don't burn out by the time I'm 35.

And that's really it. At the end of the day, I'm the one who ends up looking crazy while everyone else seems perfectly fine.

Anyway, do you guys ever get that feeling that the rest of the world has gone off the deep end and you're the only sane person left? Or am I actually the crazy one here? 🙂

In this crazy world, being sane actually makes you look like the mad one. 🙂
You aren’t losing it, and neither are they. It’s just that you’ve been through the ringer—you've survived some incredibly heavy, soul-crushing situations, especially dealing with death, and that kind of trauma forces your perspective to shift. It pushes you to finally see the simplicity and the raw beauty in the little things. Wanting to appreciate life isn't "crazy." Falling in love with its simplicity isn't either. After everything you've endured, you don't crave the drama or the sensationalism anymore; you just find yourself reaching for balance and a sense of calm.

A buddy of mine actually told me I'm just like Leah from Big Brother, specifically because she broke down in tears thinking she was the only smart one in the house.

🙂🙂🙂

I mean, seriously, has nobody else ever had that thought about me? Like, yeah right!

I don’t know if a truly normal person even exists. I haven’t met one yet. I think everyone is a little bit crazy—it just varies from person to person how much it shows. 😁

...it feels like everyone walks around thinking they’ve got life all figured out, at least until reality hits them right in the face and proves them wrong...
...honestly, I used to be that person too, convinced that my perspective was the only right one and that I saw everything with perfect clarity...
but as the years go by, I've finally realized that the only thing I truly know is that I actually know nothing at all😕 and you can never say "never"🙂
I know that every single new experience—no matter how much it sucks at the time—is going to make me a better person and give me fresh insight.
I’m on a similar wavelength as wiredrider2, though I don't necessarily think everyone around me has lost their minds. Besides, what does it even mean to be "crazy" anyway?😕

Look, honey!
Any halfway decent therapist in the States would probably just look at you and ask: "What do you think? Are you crazy?"

But 99.9% of people sitting on those therapy couches—I mean, really—they all just answer: "I don't think so!"!!?? 👍

Why is it that nobody just comes out and says it straight: "Yeah, I'm CRAZY" 🤣 🤣

Don't you see how ridiculous that sounds? It’s incredibly hard—truly difficult—to actually face who you are. 🙂

Life is tough sometimes—you're scrolling through Instagram looking at these perfect models, seeing all these gorgeous guys everyone is dating, seeing all that superficial glitter... it makes things feel harder when you aren't looking at your own reality. You need to build some self-confidence; honestly, maybe even a little bit of healthy narcissism wouldn't hurt you right now.

We can't all have everything we want—whether it's material wealth or spiritual enlightenment—and you just have to
accept that. 🙂
Make peace with yourself, and things will get a whole lot easier. 😉

You’re just being totally negative and malicious.

As far as I'm concerned, I still feel like I'm one of those few truly sane people left! And honestly, no amount of flashy headlines in the news can get under my skin—I know it's all just cheap tricks from the glossy paper used in magazines like 🙂🙂🙂

Normal—meaning natural, typical, or just your everyday standard.
The only thing truly "normal" is how everything exists in opposites.

Has it really never occurred to anyone else? As if.

I find myself thinking everyone is a bit slow and I'm the only one making sense when—for instance—I open up to someone, looking for actual support, a little empathy, or even just a kind word... rather than being lectured about how my reactions are "over the top" or how I'm "wrong" to feel a certain way. It's those moments where people insist on telling you exactly how you *should* be behaving that it hits me—it's exhausting dealing with people who lack any capacity for understanding and instead just stubbornly hammer away with their own narrow views. That's when the frustration sets in, and I start thinking, "Good grief, these people just don't get it." Honestly, there is nothing I despise more than being misunderstood, and even less than dealing with someone who is absolutely convinced they are right, despite having no clue what I'm talking about and refusing to listen to a single word I say.

It happens most when I reach out to someone, looking for a little empathy, some support, or even just a kind word—not a lecture. I hate it when people try to play therapist or tell me my reactions are "too much" or that I'm "wrong" for feeling a certain way. Honestly, I’ve had my fill of people who refuse to see things from another perspective and just insist on shoving their own opinions down your throat. That’s usually when I lose my cool and think, "God, these people just don't get it." I can't stand being misunderstood, and I absolutely despise it when someone acts like they're always right when they haven't even listened to a single word I've said...

That’s not really what this forum is for... anyway, enjoy yourself..

Well, I wasn't specifically talking about the forum—I was speaking more broadly about my general interactions with people. It seems that whenever there’s a breakdown in communication or a lack of mutual understanding, I end up feeling rather foolish; and then, as a sort of defense mechanism—perhaps a misguided one—I find myself labeling others as ignorant or at fault. In truth, they might very well be right and I am simply mistaken, but I suppose I just have a profound dislike for feeling like an idiot during a conversation... though, perhaps those are merely my own personal shortcomings at play..

To make it easier, I just label them as stupid or blame them. Maybe they really are right and I'm just mistaken... but I hate feeling like a fool during a conversation. Those are just my own issues, I suppose...

Even on this forum, things can get pretty vague and blurry quite often. It doesn't matter, though. Just keep writing. Maybe the process of typing it out will help clear your head...🙂

Do you think I'm being unclear specifically, or is it just the general nature of communicating on a forum like this?😕

[QUOTE=Normall

If someone actually gave an answer like that to their psychiatrist, how would they be assessed—or more importantly, what kind of diagnosis would they get?
Seriously, though, what even is the definition of insanity?
In our day-to-day lives, we don't really walk around throwing around labels like "you're crazy!"
We don't usually harbor those kinds of malicious thoughts; to me, it feels like we just say "I disagree with you" instead!

I get that, I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that no matter what you post on here, you're bound to get trashed... so I was basically saying there's no point in even bothering with that kind of talk...😘

The people around me seem perfectly fine, whereas I often feel a bit out of sync with their version of "normal." It isn't that something is wrong with me; it's just that my interests and priorities rarely align with what seems popular in my social circles. This can lead to moments of loneliness or the feeling that I have to put on an act just to fit in. However, it isn't such a heavy burden. One eventually learns how to navigate it. 🙂 Then again, perhaps many others feel exactly the same way about themselves and the world around them. 😉

P.S. There is an old American saying that if you haven't lost your mind by now, you aren't truly living—it’s a sentiment born from surviving the chaos in the States since the early '90s. 😁 Honestly, I think anyone who has spent the last 15 years navigating life in the North American region has felt a little "unsettled," but there is no need to overthink it; it's just part of the experience. 😬 Anyway, this is getting a bit off topic. 😉

I mistyped a word, so I ended up being unclear myself... 😬 I was thinking about you. I don't always follow your train of thought, and while I can tell you're frustrated, I can't quite pin down why... No ill intent intended. 🙂

Regarding this topic—we really need to start highlighting the people around us who seem steady and composed. If you take a closer look, you'll realize they have their own flaws and struggles too. Seeing that makes it easier to view yourself in a more positive light...
