jigsaw said:I don't believe. I don't trust anyone. Not authorities, not degrees, not intellectuals, nor the masses. I can listen to anything and everyone, analyze what is said, and accept whatever strikes me as rational and logical. But I don't primarily trust myself, and that is where the weight of the situation lies. If a person blindly trusted themselves and never questioned their own decisions... well, not a decision like going to the restroom because your bladder is full, but say, the decision to finish a certain degree... then there wouldn't be a problem. They would be a robot. A satisfied robot who sets a goal, achieves it, sets a new one, and continues until they eventually meet Lady Death. Period. But I ask why... and I ask it too often, which makes living difficult.

Yes, we are built this way—as seekers. But even for seekers, there are limits. What if Columbo had tried to walk over every single inch of newly discovered territory? He surely would have died or lost his mind trying. And I am doing that... metaphorically, of course. 🙂

THANK GOD... finally, this knot is starting to unravel...
It is only now, reading your valued comments, that I realize I have been a "robot." My life up to this point has been a completely tedious routine. Waking up, drinking coffee, college. Coffee again, always the same boring topics like who is dating whom, sitting on the bus or in a car, and then back home.
A total coma... waking up at 5:00 AM to start work by 6:00... soul-crushing labor that I have zero interest in, working until 6:00 PM, coming home, showering, and being dead tired in bed by 9:00 PM... and then the cycle repeats the next day. Then, in June, my father fell ill, and I began to realize how my entire life had been part of that cursed circle, only for him to pass away in September of this year, utterly broken by a cruel illness. Still, it consoles me that he was surrounded by people who loved him and continue to love him.
COMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.... I feel like a ball bearing that has been spinning for too long and has run out of strength, trapped in a loop with no apparent exit...
Perhaps I am overly paranoid and urgently need psychological help, but who knows... 🙄

It’s only just hitting me. Reading through these comments, I realized I’ve basically been a "robot." My life has just been one long, monotonous loop. Wake up, grab coffee, head to class. Coffee again, always the same tired small talk about who's dating whom, commuting on the bus or driving, then back home...
The summer is brutal. Waking up at 5:00 AM to start work by 6:00. It’s soul-crushing labor that I have zero interest in, working straight through until 6:00 PM. Get home, shower, and by 9:00 PM, I'm already dead to the world in bed... and then we do it all over again the next day...

Routine is a killer. I always wanted a quiet life—to come home from school or work, relax after lunch, read a bit, listen to the radio, maybe take a stroll through town. I eventually achieved exactly that, only to realize how incredibly dull and depressing it actually is. I've had enough. 🙂

So, what specific steps do you intend to take to change this? 🙄

I’ve started cooking for myself. It’s all brand new territory for me, and I'm actually finding it pretty fun to experiment... whether it's trying out recipes, hitting the gym, or just staying active. Anything to keep from sitting around overthinking the meaning of life.

And there's no need for the eye rolls.

There is no need to roll your eyes at this.

My apologies for the eye-rolling; regardless, what you're doing is a commendable move. 😛

Most people spend their entire lives hunting for some grand "meaning" to existence, yet they haven't even bothered to figure out what an actual purpose should look like in the first place... which is exactly why they come up empty-handed. They never find it. And then, inevitably, they end up feeling cheated by life itself, spiraling into this deep melancholy or turning bitter, becoming these heavy, difficult souls who act like victims or just straight-up cynics to everyone around them.
You could argue that meaning doesn't even exist unless we take the initiative to build it ourselves from scratch... and honestly, you don't need to be aiming for these massive, unreachable milestones to make it work. It always has to start within, with those tiny things that actually bring us a sense of satisfaction, moving through small but steady steps toward whatever it is we recognize as our own personal reason for being. 🙂

That is perfectly logical, given that life lacks an inherent purpose. 😁 It really just comes down to how you choose to handle it. You could adopt a pre-packaged sense of purpose established by those before us through various religions and spiritual traditions, or you might decide to craft your own evolving set of meanings that shift alongside your personal experiences. Alternatively, you could spend your days chasing a grand design, or simply let go of the search entirely and live moment to moment, finding joy in whatever life brings your way. The choice is yours. 🙂

Honestly, folks, life is actually pretty incredible, yet you all seem hell-bent on wasting it all on depression and constant pessimism.🙄 At the end of the day, the world is really just whatever version of it you decide to build for yourselves.
And hey, shadowfox75, maybe start by changing that avatar, because honestly, it’s pretty grim and looks a bit lifeless as it is 😉😛 try looking inward for a second—figure out what actually brings you some joy, then go do it. It isn't the end of the world just because you got laid off, or you're single, or whatever else you were whining about. Tomorrow could be a completely different story.

And shadowfox75, start by changing your avatar because you look incredibly lifeless and frankly unpleasant right now. 😉😛 Take some time for self-reflection and find something that actually brings you joy, then pursue it. Losing a job or being single isn't the end of the world—you've already listed plenty of setbacks. Things can be different as early as tomorrow.

That comment about the avatar was brilliant... honestly, that's the first time I've genuinely laughed in a long time. 😬

It seems like more people are finding themselves in this exact same situation..

It feels like we’re all just circling back to where we started..

So, if you're up for it, please share something a bit more optimistic to help brighten up the mood today. Whether it's a song lyric, a line of poetry, or just a positive thought of your own.. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

I am not much of a comforter, but perhaps try writing out what is weighing on you... someone else might offer some solid advice or an interesting perspective... 👋

I’ve been going through this phase where I just can't find the motivation for anything. Honestly, I feel burned out and let down by certain people, which has led me to slowly start pushing everyone away. I’m well aware of what isolation feels like—I've been stuck in that hole before—so it's unsettling to realize I'm drifting back toward it. It weighs on me that so few things bring me joy lately, and there are moments when I just wish I could disappear for a while. I am trying, though; I’m attempting to find pleasure in the little things and stay busy just enough to try and reclaim some sense of purpose. I know the cliché response is that "everyone has bad days," but lately, those days seem to be outnumbering the good ones. I have so many people in my life who truly matter to me, but I’ve always been the type to keep my pessimism tucked away and suffer in silence, so opening up like this is actually a huge step for me😉..but then, just a moment ago, I ran into someone I hadn't had a real, deep conversation with in ages. We didn't dive into our problems, but we just talked—really talked—about life in a way that felt genuine and beautiful, and it actually lifted my spirits. If a simple interaction like that could make me smile, I imagine you all might have some thoughts on that too..it just goes to show that sometimes, simply being listened to can be a much more powerful connection than you might think, even if it's only for a brief moment

So, I don't think it's necessarily about seeking comfort, but rather about the sincere effort to be understood

Please, feel free to share whatever is on your mind..

It’s unsettling how little seems to bring me joy lately, and there are moments when I honestly just wish I could vanish for a while. Still, I’m trying to find solace in the small things, keeping busy enough just to reclaim some semblance of will... I know the clichés; we all have our days, but they seem to be happening more frequently now. There are plenty of people in my life who matter to me, yet I’ve always kept this pessimism tucked away, swallowing everything internally—so opening up like this is quite a leap for me😉... But just a moment ago, I ran into someone I hadn't had a real, serious conversation with in ages. We didn't dwell on problems; we just talked—really talked—about something pleasant and genuine, and it actually lifted my spirits... If that was enough to make me smile, then I think any thought you might share would be welcome... Sometimes, simply being heard is a vital link that contributes more than you realize, even if only for a fleeting moment..

So, it isn't so much about seeking comfort as it is about an attempt at being understood.

Please, feel free to write whatever is on your mind..

I’m not entirely sure how to respond to this, but since I see no one else is chiming in, I’ll offer a few thoughts.. First, please know you aren't alone in questioning the meaning of it all; it haunts me from time to time too, though I tend to avoid dwelling on it because I always end up hitting a wall. Eventually, I realized it’s better not to overthink it—my old man used to say there's no use pulling an old root out of the ground just to plant a new one, so instead, try to enjoy those tiny, sweet, unexpected moments that make life feel worthwhile. There will always be someone or something that makes a specific day, a month, or even a single minute feel purposeful and encouraging... I believe that if you can just conjure up a memory of a person, a situation, or an event you truly loved, you'll remember that life *was* meaningful once.
That was my take on meaning, anyway, and I must admit that isolation and pessimism are very familiar territory to me as well. It is difficult when you realize you are pushing people away—whether out of fear, insecurity, disappointment, or heaven knows what else... I can't really offer much help here, as I find myself in a similarly foolish predicament that I can't quite navigate, and sometimes I wonder if it's all just an excuse to avoid people. Perhaps one must learn to accept being a bit of a loner—or perhaps one needs to change it if it becomes too much of a burden—though I’m not sure how to put that properly. Goodness, I've rambled on so much and said so little in the end.. Anyway, I'll leave you with this😘 and I hope it brightened your mood, even just a little...

It seems you finally found someone you can actually trust and talk things through with. It’s good to have that outlet. I struggle with it myself; out of everyone I know, I only have one true friend, and even he avoids talking about his own issues. I can tell he's carrying a lot, though—he's often moody or just off... Most other people are too wrapped up in their own worlds, preoccupied with everything except what actually matters. As for parents, they mean well and care deeply, but the moment you try to have a serious conversation—usually about my dating life, which apparently constitutes a national crisis here in the States 😁—the discussion somehow pivots to stories about how they used to party at some fancy hotels in Miami thirty years ago. Naturally, I just lose interest... and we go in circles. 🙂 Honestly, I don't have a secret formula for finding life's purpose. If I did, I would have figured it out by now.

That's all from me... 👋

Honestly, those overbearing parents can be such a massive headache when they start lecturing you about something—it’s truly exhausting. It feels like they just won't let us live our own lives in peace; instead, they just drone on and on, and more often than not, it's about things I barely even care about. I mean, if they could just give me one actual, straight answer to the questions I'm actually asking... wouldn't that be nice?🙄

We all know there are all sorts of people out there. But calling them "explorers"... oh, I wouldn't go that far. There are plenty of self-absorbed robots walking around every corner of this country, certainly. I think you've realized by now that isn't the life you want. You chose the harder path, and now you have to live with the consequences of that choice. Knowledge comes at a steep price, so good morning and welcome, 😘... honestly, I’d rather face a fight with a sword in my hand... metaphorically, of course 🙂

You're a bright kid.

You're a smart kid.

My take is that everyone is an explorer, up to a point. Once that boundary starts getting terrifying—once what lies beyond it becomes too much to handle—retreating back into the known world becomes a survival instinct.
It’s perfectly illustrated in *The Matrix*... when Cypher begs Agent Smith to plug him back into the simulation because reality is just too harsh. He calls ignorance bliss. I've spent a lot of time chewing on that dilemma, and frankly, I can't find a single solid argument for either side.

If I actually thanked you for the compliment, my ego would start talking. I try to keep that thing buried in the dirt as often as possible, so... 😉
