Lexapro is awesome
I started feeling it (on 10mg) in just about 3-4 days, unless you end up needing two pills or more

I'm trying not to overdo it, but honestly... damn it... sometimes you just have to push through. It's a shame—for the marriage, at least... but hey, there aren't many of us guys left, so demand is high... haha.😁
Also... what kind of "improvement" are we talking about? Like, becoming indifferent to everything, or...?

For daytime, Xanax is definitely the better call, especially if you're working. It’s basically designed for that...
my doctor actually told me it's the only pill that's safe to take while driving!

Paxil just makes me way too drowsy; everything feels so sluggish...

Hey there!

Maybe try just one (1) pill in the evening... like, maybe thirty minutes before you actually want to pass out. Say you take it at 10:30 PM, then head to bed, kill all the lights, and put the phone away. Just hang out for a bit, count some sheep, and hopefully wake up refreshed in the morning. It really depends on your metabolism and how your body handles things. If you've got a fast metabolism, you might feel a little lightheaded when you get up, or maybe your legs feel a bit twitchy... but your head should feel totally clear. And honestly, taking one pill isn't going to make you addicted. 100% sure about that...

I've been struggling with terrible insomnia for about five years now... I've tried all sorts of pills, but the only thing that actually worked for me—at least at first—was... Calixta...

I’m not dealing with depression, so I wonder if that's why they gave me this... maybe because it isn't as addictive as other things. I actually visited a sleep clinic recently and they prescribed Doxepin. I have it here at home, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet... just haven't found the right moment to take a break...

I'm actually pretty nervous about trying this... since I need to have a full day completely off all meds before starting something new. If the new one doesn't work out, I'd be in a massive crisis. I wouldn't sleep for days... and honestly, I don't know if I'd just pass out or end up losing my mind... 😠 👎

I tried Sanval, but I couldn't get a wink of sleep... it just left me feeling paralyzed and having these mild hallucinations...😲 It’s just brutal...

Xanax helped me out a bit, but only to help me drift off... It didn't really make the sleep last longer or improve the actual quality of it...

Maybe try some warm chocolate milk before bed..

Or, even better—don't sleep at all tonight. Just stay active all day tomorrow and you'll be out cold by 9 PM.
They say it’s the best kind of sleep you can get, lasting a solid 22 to 24 hours.

A friend of mine was drinking some kind of sleep tea lately... I can't quite recall the exact brand she used. She had been looking for something to help with her insomnia, and I actually suggested she just try some herbal teas instead of jumping straight to pills. Apparently, she loved the aroma of the tea, even though everyone else thought it smelled terrible. She told me it worked wonders and she slept like a baby.👍

Being active during the day doesn't necessarily guarantee good sleep. I know someone who worked themselves to the bone all day, went to bed at 11 PM, woke up at 1 AM, stayed awake until 6 AM, and then just kept grinding through the cycle like that... until they finally had a complete mental breakdown.👍

It's a bit of a balancing act... I can't just stay in bed all day doing nothing, but if I overdo it, I end up too exhausted to actually sleep...

And honestly, they say you get the best rest before midnight, but if I hit the sack at 10 PM, I'm wide awake by 2 AM.
I guess 11:30 PM is my sweet spot.😎

You might want to look into some herbal teas—maybe lemon balm or valerian. You can pick them up easily at any CVS or Walgreens. The first one is usually around $3.00, while the second sits closer to 17 or 18 dollars. I find that sipping on one right before bed is quite lovely; the taste is pleasant and it really helps you unwind.
Personally, I like to combine my tea with Bonisan from a brand like Nature Made (it’s another herbal supplement you can grab over the counter without a prescription... just a blend of hops, valerian, and lemon balm. Since it's 100% plant-based, it's my preferred way to go 🙂)—it's what I reach for when I absolutely need to fall asleep quickly and ensure I get a decent amount of rest.
The packaging actually lists its specific uses:
- To help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper sleep
- For dealing with insomnia triggered by restlessness
- For general relaxation and calming down

Here it is... if you aren't facing a massive, clinical struggle with insomnia, this should do the trick for you. Plus, there's no real danger involved.

Sean Richardson9, is it actually okay to drink these teas if I'm already on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds?

It might be better to just stop by a pharmacy and ask them directly. They'll be able to give you much more reliable advice on that..

I read somewhere that St. John's Wort shouldn't be taken with antidepressants at all; though I don't really see why, since they're just plant-based teas...

The only thing is, I'm not sure if anything like that would even work for me anymore, since I've become so reliant on the prescription stuff 😎

I’m taking two Normabels and a Sanval before bed, and honestly? It does absolutely nothing for me. 😢 So, here I am, staring at the screen on this forum at 2:30 AM after tossing and turning in bed for two hours straight.

Here’s the deal with that medication. It’s classified as a hypnotic, which basically means it helps you knock out fast and keeps you from tossing and turning all night. You really have to take it right before you hit the sack, otherwise, it won't work quite like it's supposed to.
http://www.tegobe.com/vademecumi/lek/sanval.html

All true. I’d vouch for Sanval any day. Well, except for that one time I popped one in the middle of the afternoon because some personal drama was driving me crazy. Couldn't fall asleep to save my life, so I sat down at my computer and started low-key hallucinating...😲
But hey, I finally found my sweet spot! Always take it at night right before bed, and then boom. I crash instantly, wake up feeling totally fine in the morning, and just get on with my day.👍

From what I've read, St. John's Wort is actually used to treat depression... which is exactly why you shouldn't mix it with pills.
If anyone thinks I'm wrong, just know that I am looking at this right now.

Have you ever thought about trying marijuana? Just as a sleep aid...

If you aren't already a smoker, even better... there's no risk of addiction.
You can find endless recipes online for cannabis edibles.
I'd suggest making some infused butter.
Just have a little bit with some jam about an hour before bed and 😁you'll sleep like a baby.

Henry Hernandez68 said:Can someone walk me through how sleep aids actually work? Like, what’s the deal with the mechanics of them, and how long does it usually take before you're wide awake in the morning? Also, I was wondering—can you just pick some up at a local CVS or Walgreens without needing a prescription from a doctor? Thanks!
and if anyone has any recommendations... please...
I am dealing with some really heavy-duty sleep issues lately.

Don't go popping those until you've talked to a psychiatrist
they hit healthy people way harder

I was on Paxil.
The sleep was great, but I felt like a zombie all day long. 😍
At my last appointment, my psychiatrist and I agreed it was time to taper off.
My sleep isn't perfect right now, but honestly, I prefer that over feeling completely drugged out.
I've got a follow-up next week, so we'll see how things shake out.

Just get yourself to the gym and start doing some cardio... every single day...
and I guess after maybe a month at most, you'll start feeling a whole lot better.
