I mean, once you actually commit to picking out cakes, they usually give you samples.
I haven't had any luck getting freebies yet—I’ve just been buying them myself since we still can't make up our minds.

It’s honestly not even an issue, because if they actually kept slices of cheesecake on hand to just grab and go, I’d have bought one in a heartbeat, but everything there is strictly made-to-order. They basically just have a handful of cookies sitting out and that's about the extent of it...

Zachary Price2 said:I actually spent some time flipping through the Mississippi Delta dessert catalog, and I have to admit, their cakes look absolutely stunning on the outside. I was seriously considering placing an order because their prices seemed pretty reasonable, too. But honestly, every single person I mentioned them to ended up spitting them right back out, claiming they just use those cheap, pre-made boxed mixes for the batter and the frosting and then just toss in some flavoring to mask the taste. At this rate, I'm going to end up completely losing my mind over cake.

I actually had one of their cakes at a birthday party recently—picked up at a local Walmart—and I was genuinely surprised by how good it was... it was delicious, actually 👍

So, does that mean they don't put the same effort into their wedding cakes?
At least, I would hope they wouldn't... 🤷

These Russian cakes are just incredible; I honestly can't wrap my head around how anyone could bake something this perfect.

Linda Edwards3 said:Does anyone happen to know where to find some actually decent pastries here in San Francisco? My main issue is that everything feels way too mass-produced—it’s like they all use the exact same dough and fillings, so every single dessert ends up tasting identical... I’d really love a solid recommendation if anyone has one.

I've been on the exact same hunt for good sweets in San Francisco, and honestly, the options are pretty underwhelming. When I was traveling through America, the pastries there were definitely a step up—everything felt homemade and authentic. They have this great mix of creamy desserts and more crumbly, dry ones. The creamy stuff is alright, but the dry varieties didn't exactly blow my mind... just felt like buying a pound of sugar in a box $33. However, I did visit this one lady who runs her own little boutique bakery; she does these dry pastries that are genuinely delicious, and the price is basically the same as the commercial shops. If you need a specific number for her, let me know... and if anyone else has leads, please help us out!!!!

Bond in Kansas City makes decent cakes at fair prices; we ordered from them and everyone was happy

Hey girl...look, I ended up just going with Delta for my cake. I was only in the States for a few days, so I didn't have much time to overthink it. Honestly, I've had Delta cakes before and they weren't bad to me—I told them I wanted a variety of flavors for the different tiers, like one fruit layer, one chocolate, stuff like that..

Hope that helps! We had to pay for it right away, plus I ordered two extra cakes on top of it. We even paid a deposit for the stand $133 which we get back once we return it.

Here’s a shot of my cake—it's a little hard to see clearly... but I think it looks 😍

It was honestly incredible! It was this silky custard cream with bits of forest berries scattered throughout, all drizzled in white chocolate instead of that heavy frosting stuff, so it just melted the second you took a bite... Honestly, it felt more like a bowl of cream that just happened to have a crust at the bottom.😍😁

Sean Long4 said:A frendica of mine just had her wedding recently, and I actually ended up being pleasantly surprised by their cake.

Sean Long4, do you remember what kind of cake it was? Was it chocolate, stracciatella, vanilla, or hazelnut?

I’m running into the same issue as Zachary Price2. At Boise or other bakeries around here, they just don't have any cakes available to sample. I have no idea why that is.

We’ve definitely decided on Boise because our wedding is on Maui, and they have a shop right there, which makes logistics much easier.

We originally wanted Mississippi, because the chocolate cake we tried from them was one of the best we've ever had. Incredible cream and soft, light sponge. It looks heavy, but it’s actually light and incredibly delicious. Highly recommend.

But coordinating transport to the island is just too complicated, and since Boise has locations in NYC, I can order through them easily. That convenience was the deciding factor.

It’s strange, though—there wasn't a single slice of those cakes to try in Maui, Miami, or NYC. Only individual pastries. Maybe just bad luck.

So, if any ladies here have tried cakes from Boise, please weigh in.
I'm particularly interested in the stracciatella; apparently, it's their most popular wedding choice.

Sorry for the long post.🙄

So, I found myself wandering through the Mississippi again, desperately trying to track down some pastries that actually tasted decent enough to serve as inspiration for a cake, but honestly, it was a total bust...🙂🙂..the lady at the bakery center just flat-out told me they don't have anything worth having...I mean, can you even believe the nerve of some people?

I can vouch for that, since I went through the exact same thing both near the Mississippi and up in Boise.

Down by the Mississippi, they only had chocolate, but I have to admit—it was easily the best I've ever had.

I really have to give a shout-out to Walmart. They were an absolute lifesaver at the eleventh hour—especially after my total meltdown involving a former pastry chef who decided to change our entire agreement just three days before the wedding. Honestly, I was right on the verge of a nervous breakdown because of it. Anyway... everyone was raving about the desserts, and I actually found myself heading back there for more sweets even after the big day was over. Now, finally, I can embrace the extra pounds without any guilt. 😉

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see this until just now..

The cake actually had three layers, each with a different flavor... chocolate, something with walnuts, and stracciatella.
