I’ve got a question... not sure if I'm even in the right sub, but the site won't let me start a new thread...
Basically, I was subpoenaed to testify about some criminal case from back in 2003. I first got called in about a year ago, and since then, it’s just been one endless delay after another—at least from my perspective. I showed up today only to find out everything was pushed back again because they’re still waiting on another witness and three out of the five defendants aren't even there. It's a criminal matter.
How long can this actually drag on? I’ve got a life, you know. I can't exactly keep telling my boss I need to head to court every two months, only to have them cancel at the last minute... it makes me look bad.
Today, the cops picked up one person, someone else will probably be hauled in next time, and two others are out sick.
I made it crystal clear to them that I can't make the next date because I already have plans I can't break.
So here's my question: does every single time someone fails to show up mean the whole thing gets postponed? Does this mean this could honestly drag on for another 20 years?
Is anyone actually going to wrap this up???
Does this nightmare ever end???
pls help.

Hey!

So... got caught by a fare inspector on the bus this morning because I didn't have my pass, right? Naturally, I just handed over my ID so they could "write up the ticket," and then they gave everything back to me. It says here, like it's some big deal, that I gotta pay $37 within 3 days. But honestly...
there is no way in hell I'm paying that. No freaking way.😛
It says if I don't pay, they’ll file a formal misdemeanor report with the local court 🤷... so yeah, I kind of lost it on them for a second.😳
Anyway... anyone from Cleveland know how the transit authority handles this stuff? Like, do they actually take people to court? I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's been slapped with one of these "tickets," but
well, I'm definitely not the first person to just ghost them on the payment. =)

Thanks in advance!

Well, honestly... that might be the worst move you could have made.🤣
But look, a fine is a fine. If it actually came to that, doesn't it mean everything was already settled in the books and programs?

I’m looking to contest a traffic ticket, but I’m honestly flying blind here. I have no idea what a formal appeal should actually look like, so if anyone is willing to lend a hand, I’d really appreciate it 😁.
Here’s the situation: I blew a 0.52, which falls within the legal tolerance range, yet I was cited under Section 191, Subsection 1 of the State Vehicle Code. According to Section 199, Subsection 6, that carries a fine of $667 plus $63 in court costs. On top of that, I’ve been hit with three points on my license and a three-month suspension.
I didn't sign the citation at the scene—does that carry any weight in my favor?
Thanks

I’ll take a look at my buddy's computer later today; there's a chance he might still have those files tucked away since he was caught up in that same situation a few years back. I'll get back to you once I know more. Cheers.

Thanks

I forgot to mention that the cop just went ahead and wrote down how much I drank and when my last drink was without even asking me first.

It’s all well and good to complain about getting a ticket because you were speeding or whatever, but this? This would only be an issue if they had actually forced him to drink. I suppose you shouldn't go helping him out!

Well, he wasn't even completely wasted... 🙄 I mean... 0.52 🙄
So why shouldn't we help him if it means avoiding a fine... 🙄

Honestly, he’s more of a threat to everyone else than he is to himself, and that’s exactly why he should be held accountable. As for the rest of it, I don't see why anyone should step in to help him; if he wants a hand, maybe he should try helping himself by staying sober behind the wheel instead of drinking while driving.

And what are you doing here playing judge and jury?👎

I suppose you all take it quite lightly, though I wonder if anyone truly considers what happens when someone isn't just caught, but actually ends up behind bars. One might ask whether they’d be any more inclined to avoid drinking and driving after that.

Look, I am certainly not advocating for letting drunk drivers off the hook, but there is a massive difference between a criminal offender and a guy who simply had two beers before getting behind the wheel.

And why exactly would he be allowed to do that when others aren't? I suppose one has to wonder why he’s considered so much more special than everyone else.

look, you gotta file that appeal within 8 days of getting hit with the fine. my guess is you need to write up two copies and drop them off at the local municipal court. didn't they even give you a breathalyzer test?
just put it all down... if you want, you can admit you were drinking, or just claim you're broke since you're out of work, or you've got a family to feed and stuff...

Honestly, what kind of double standard is he actually operating under here? It’s enough to make you lose your mind. Look, I’m all for accountability—sure, he had too much to drink and there needs to be a penalty for that—but $667?? Come on! He wasn't even incapacitated. It feels fundamentally unjust to hand him the exact same sentence they gave that billionaire's son who killed that girl over the summer last year.

aha, if you were asking whether it was just two beers or TWO beers, I suppose we'd have a real debate on our hands,

So, here’s the deal: back on October 23, 2005, I messed up big time—specifically, a DUI. The Police Officer showed absolutely zero mercy; he handed me a massive stack of paperwork and yanked my driver's license for three days. Looking back, I know I didn't need to go there, especially since my entire career depends on having a valid license. And the kicker? I lived a mere 10-minute walk from my house. I honestly have no clue why I didn't just wait until the next day to grab the car, but hey, mistakes were made.
Anyway, it's been two years now and I haven't heard a peep from anyone—no court summons, no mail from the county, nothing from the local precinct. So now I'm wondering: did this whole thing just fall through the cracks, or am I finally officially off the hook as a "fugitive"???
If anyone here actually knows how the legal system works or has dealt with something similar, please fill me in.
Thanks🙂

Fair enough. Anyway, Jackie, I'll catch up with you later. Take care.

We don't tolerate this kind of attitude here.

Boohoo. The guy has one drink and suddenly everyone is calling for a SWAT team.

Under the old laws, a .08 was perfectly fine, and nobody threw a fit back then.

And another thing... He didn't hit anyone or cause any trouble. He just had bad luck and got pulled over.

Exactly. In the US, they actually allow up to 0.80. I’m just waiting for some guy to get pulled over for driving without headlights during the day, only to come on here and get roasted by everyone for being "irresponsible."☕
