G. is Black Stone. 😬

hollowviper72 said:Moderation in all things—that’s my personal motto.

I’d love to say I live by that middle ground, really, but I just don't have an ounce of self-control when it comes to anything. 😢
I’m completely undisciplined and honestly quite clumsy with how I handle life, constantly swinging from one extreme to the other.
I can't seem to keep anything steady for long because everything eventually needs a shake-up. For instance, every once in a while, I feel this overwhelming urge to rearrange my furniture, switch jobs, find a new circle of friends—everything starts to itch and get under my skin.
The sheer scale of what I go through (meaning, what I actually do to myself) is pretty terrifying. 😲
How does a person ever actually settle down? 🙂 🙂
And at what age is that even supposed to happen? 😬
It isn't that I am both extremes at once, it's more that I'm a little bit of one and a little bit of the other, and neither side ever feels quite right.
And honestly, you could swap those two opposites out for any conflicting concepts imaginable and the feeling would stay the same. 😁

Stability isn't really about how old you are... it's more about who you are as a person and what's actually going on inside your own head.
When you find yourself snapping at everyone over the smallest, most trivial things, maybe it’s worth taking a second to look at the real reasons why you're feeling so frustrated in the first place. 😁

😁 Well, knock me over with a feather! 😛

Jack Harris3:

Besides, you aren't nearly as soft as you let on.

I am the Great Pretender.... 😉
Well, my wives have already told me I'm pretty soft... and honestly, it’s true—it happened while they were giving me those sweet belly rubs... 😬

Jack Harris3 said:If you’re constantly losing your mind over every little thing, maybe you should try looking at what’s actually causing all that frustration. 😁

Well, that’s kind of the point—it’s not even that I freak out about every tiny detail.
It’s more that sometimes I just completely snap and lose my grip entirely, and other times, honestly, nothing really gets to me at all.
🙄
And no, there isn't some predictable four-week cycle going on here. 😬

I'm not trying to be some kind of textbook case. 😬

And were they actually looking him in the eye when they said it, or was it more like... looking down at him? 😁

Look, I tried playing that whole romantic teasing game once, just to see if it would spark something, but it totally backfired. 😂 Instead of running off to cry in a corner, he just stayed right there with his crew, completely unfazed... so honestly, whatever, I don't really care what people think about it. 🙂
It’s just such a cheap move. 😁 👍

So, all that really means is you’re hyper-sensitive to those tiny, subtle nuances in any given situation—and then you end up carrying that energy from one thing to the next, even when the two situations have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

I mean, look at me—I’m usually calm to a fault; honestly, it takes a lot to actually get under my skin. But then, out of nowhere, I’ll be having a perfectly pleasant conversation with someone, smiling away... and five minutes later, I’m snapping at them just to make sure they get the point. My habit of lashing out without warning isn't exactly fair to people, I know. But it happens because certain things from a completely unrelated context trigger me, and if something else happens to stack on top of *that*... well, look at today. I was already in a foul mood because of something else, and then I ended up flying off the handle at those posts over on Reddit—posts I wouldn't even blink at on any other day.
Maybe it’s a similar kind of thing with you?

I mean, look, I’m usually about as level-headed as they come—getting me worked up is actually pretty difficult. But then I’ll be having this perfectly pleasant conversation with someone, all smiles and friendly, and five minutes later I’m snapping at them just to make sure they get the point. That tendency of mine to lash out without any warning isn't exactly fair to people, I know. But it happens because certain things from a completely unrelated situation will grate on my nerves, and then if one more little thing goes wrong on top of that... well, it's a domino effect. Like today, I was already in a funk over something else, and then I ended up flying off the handle at those posts over on Reddit, posts that wouldn't have even made me blink under normal circumstances.
Maybe it’s a similar kind of thing with you?

Exactly! That's it! 👋 👋

Oooo, a nice one! 😁
No way—for that kind of stuff, he’s strictly reserved for high-pitched squeals of pure delight. 🙂

Look, I actually tried to mess with him back in the day just to be romantic, but it honestly didn't work out at all. 😂 He didn't go running off to cry in a corner or anything; he just stayed right where he was, totally stone-faced, so I figured, hey, whatever, it is what it is. 🙂
It's just straight-up teasing. 😁 👍 [/B]

Nobody’s ever going to like me when I've got my armor on. 🙂
Seriously—when I try to lift up my heavy plating to show some girl the light from my heart, and she just ends up biting me where it's soft... man, I just completely crumble. 😉

😂 You?
You’re basically spending another whole year convincing yourself that she actually loves you after all. 😁😛

Anyway, why don't the two of you try my approach instead?

When I'm in a bad mood, I stay off the forums 😁 (I only jump on here when I'm feeling good and looking for someone to tear me apart 😂 ), and if someone tries to talk to me privately, I just warn them to back off... tell them not to ask me anything until I've cooled down, unless they want to be the target for me to dump all my frustration on. 😁

Honestly, I don't even need much of a reason to snap; I can get there just by calling my mother.😬

In all seriousness—in those moments😁 where you can actually manage it—it probably makes sense to just retreat or quiet down a bit, just to make sure you aren't causing any unnecessary damage to people around you.
😬

It isn't really about the forums (I'm still perfectly fine here),😬 I know I can get just as worked up with my boss at work.

You? Honestly, you’re still trying to convince yourself for another year that she actually loves you.

Look, I didn't specify *how many* blocks I was stacking. In my case, it feels less like building a tower and more like tectonic plates shifting... but hey, when they finally collide, you get that satisfying, earth-shattering crash eventually. 😉

Anyway, have you two ever tried my little method? When I'm in a foul mood, I stay off the forums entirely (I usually only log on when I'm feeling good—or when I specifically want someone to tear me apart), and if someone happens to cross my path in person, I give them a fair warning to back off. I tell them not to ask a single question until I've cooled down, unless, of course, they’re looking to become my personal punching bag for whatever frustration I'm dealing with at that moment.

Actually, I started doing exactly that recently. It turns out I have a knack for catching people off guard... plus, the self-control really does help. For instance, earlier today, some guy on a bike started screaming at me because I cut him off—which, mind you, he practically invited by riding right in the middle of the street while a semi-truck was trying to pass us (go figure)... My hand instinctively flew up and my middle finger was halfway there, but at the very last second, I managed to pivot it into what looked like a perfectly innocent wave.

Might be for the best, though, since the guy caught up to me at the next intersection. 😁 Wouldn't want to end up in handcuffs because of a misunderstanding with local PD...

Quick poll time! 🙂 I’m actually seeing these terms for the first time on this forum...
I voted for: Moderate Slacker - 60-75% slacker energy, though honestly, I live my "slacker" lifestyle pretty hard—everything I write is how I actually roll in real life, so maybe I didn't pick the perfect option. But whatever. 🙂 It would be nice if the high-achievers helped us slackers out a bit instead of just making fun of us. 😉
