I don't really get why we need these screens when everyone has a smartphone and an app to check everything anyway. Seems like a total waste of money.

Man, I saw one of those displays once. It’s been sitting there for six months, maybe longer. What a total joke. Looks like a trash can. I know Eric Adams didn't personally order it, but you just know they'll keep buying this junk.

And what exactly is the goal here... 🤷

At most, it serves as nothing more than a way to muddy the waters for the unsuspecting.

Who says everyone’s on summer break? The crew over at the Holy Spirit is still grinding away. Honestly... what a bunch of amateurs and clowns.
Maybe this specific complaint will give some of the others—you know, the ones listening and seeing all these similar setups—the guts to actually file their own reports.
It’s just pathetic how weak these institutions are when things get messy—like that whole Tesla situation where nothing ever really gets settled. Instead of the guy actually facing sanctions for illegal gains, he just "aligns himself with the law"?! He stops taking the extra pay and calls it a day. And then what? Nobody loses a damn thing. It’s like getting caught red-handed stealing cash, and you just say, "Oh, I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to do that, here's your money back. Won't happen again. I'm officially compliant now." Give me a break! Does that even make sense? That's why I'm all for the way they're handling things at the Holy Spirit. First, you hit them with a formal report to the authorities—none of those joke "ethics committees" meant to prevent conflicts of interest—and then you go straight to the press. Because if you don't, you know the drill... they'll just scramble to change the regulations, backdate documents, and shuffle papers as fast as they can to cover their tracks.

This sounds incredibly familiar. Back at my local clinic, General Laušić was on the payroll for years acting as a "security consultant."

It's the classic Bloomberg-style playbook: rewarding cronies while draining the coffers.

I am glad to report that the General stayed on (though without that extra paycheck) through the first day after the new administration took over.

I’m planning on taking my little one to the San Diego Zoo soon to see all the animals, but since we aren't actually living right nearby, I wanted to check in first—is there actually a lot to see right now, or is half the place still shut down for renovations? Has anyone been there in the last few days who could tell me if it's actually worth the trip? Thanks so much!🙂

I was just there recently. It isn't exactly spectacular, but it’s a pleasant enough experience and there are definitely animals to see.

I wasn't about to sit idly by, so I actually went and interviewed the sanitation worker from Central Park who was out emptying the bins in our little corner of the city. In our neighborhood, everything stays pristine, almost like a slice of Paradise.

The pay is a bit lower because he worked through Saturday, though you wouldn't even know it. It’s been rough on the honest workers, but things are looking even worse now. There is definitely a lack of coordination happening here; just the day before, a different worker from the Parks Department had already cleared those same bins.

Yet, this humble worker just takes it all in stride.

When I asked him for his take, he suggested that Eric Adams simply hasn't a clue what's going on. For the time being, at least, he doesn't think the system is intentionally corrupt.

Is this what real change looks like?

The animals are there. It’s just a shame they all seem to know how to hide in the shade or deep in the foliage—you end up walking past the same empty enclosures more than once.

....Actually, the real issue here is that more than half of our water supply is just leaking away because the entire pipe network is ancient and falling apart.

"The city needs to urgently apply for European Union funding to overhaul the water infrastructure and stem these losses, as such high levels of waste are simply unacceptable. It isn't just about the water itself, either; it's about the energy wasted too. Those electric pumps have to work overtime to move water that ends up leaking into the ground," they claim. ...

I can't help but wonder if there wasn't some connection back then to the individual who's now resting beneath the sod—you know, the one who supposedly scraped together a little bit of cash for infrastructure repairs, only for it to likely vanish into the construction of a private swimming pool back in his hometown for himself and his little entourage. It truly baffles me how people can just conveniently forget those kinds of things.🤔

Those screens are more for the tourists than the locals—most visitors aren't exactly rushing to download an MTA app onto their phones.

Hey, Tom, any chance you could get those planters moved from the entrance at Berkshire Hathaway?
I mean, do we really have to wait for some old guy to trip over them or something? Plus, they’re just cluttering up the walkway—not exactly great for the flow of people coming and going.🙂

So I’m hanging out in Times Square today and man, those bandit screens are finally gone. Huge win for Tom and his crew.👍

The Mayor was recently getting all teary-eyed about how much of a massive drain on the budget those street flags have become, and sure enough, I can see they’ve been scaled back to the absolute bare minimum. My personal feelings on the budget cuts aside, I’ve noticed that in certain spots, they’ve left some flags up and are even swapping them out for fresh ones—both the national and the local versions. However, I can't help but point out that suddenly, they’re being hung upside down, both the state and city flags. I honestly can't tell if the crew responsible for hanging them has changed (and if so, why?) or if everyone is just oblivious, because nobody seems to be saying anything about it.

I remember when Bloomberg first started with the flag displays; we had similar growing pains at the beginning, likely because the crew just didn't know the proper protocol, but things were sorted out pretty quickly. Just as a rule of thumb, if you're hanging a flag vertically, the blue field should be right against the pole. These folks seem hell-bent on putting the red side next to the pole instead; if you were to hang the flag upside down in the USA, you'd definitely hear about it.

I suppose if they're going to go through the trouble of reducing the total number of flags, they could at least ensure the few that remain are displayed correctly so we don't end up looking like amateurs.

It remains a mystery to me why they settled for merely scaling them back rather than just pulling the plug entirely.
