Hey Eric Adams and the transit department: how about actually building those tram lines you promised? Maybe throw us a bone, too—those of us living in the inner ring. Why did people from the outer boroughs even bother voting for you? Has anyone actually stopped to think about what traffic is going to look like in the surrounding neighborhoods if you shut down a five-lane artery through DG for cars? You won't stay in power long with a strategy this broken.

It’s not terrible, but they should have gone further. They mentioned building more serious bike corridors well beyond the downtown core. Honestly, I really hope they actually follow through on that part.

That’s just nonsense; he didn't reduce it by $8 million. He might believe he did, but if you take a look at page 4, you can see the actual financial health of New York City:
- In 2020, the budget closed with a deficit of $27565169
- In 2021, the budget closed with a deficit of $10223219

What's more, the revenue shortfall compared to expenditures was actually $2 million higher in 2021.

They keep chanting this mantra about how they supposedly covered the deficits rolled over from previous years. That is complete nonsense when you read the budget line items (operating results - page 16):

DEFICIT FROM PRIOR PERIODS: -$465627929
CURRENT PERIOD DEFICIT: -$10223219
DEFICITS FROM PREVIOUS YEAR(S) TO BE COVERED: -$475851148

It's much harder to cook the books than it is to spin a success story on Facebook. 😁

What I’m actually suggesting is raising gas prices for households, not just for big businesses.
60% of the country relies on the City Gas Company, not just New York City.

Pure populism and piling up debt will just drive the Gas Company straight into bankruptcy. And when they go bust, we’re left with two choices:

1. The Holding takes on even more massive debt to cover the losses (and let's face it, the Holding is already drowning in debt).
2. Privatization.

And what if they decide to clear the debt through the budget, squeeze TTu a little bit, and then sell off the cleaned-up Gas Company to PPD? That would be a total win win (for them, obviously)

The state can't just step in and bail out a company owned by New York City. Only the TT crew has the power to issue sanctions, but even then, a bailout doesn't fix the underlying problem.
The Gas Company's debt isn't some ghost from the past; it's being driven by how things are running right now.

If you're buying supplies at $33 prices but selling your services for $6.75, no amount of restructuring is going to save you.

From what I can gather, the Gas Company is legally barred from hiking up rates for residential customers.
That’s why all those people who moved over to the private sector are crawling back to Chicago City Gas...

Honestly, folks, I feel completely blindsided... It’s actually quite demoralizing to realize how much I let myself believe in this. It reminds me of when the late Bago was absolutely livid with me—back when he was tearing this fraud apart during the election cycles. He was right all along, and I was just being naive. 😢

Honestly, they probably look down on people like us and secretly despise everything we stand for, they just don't want to be politically incorrect about it.
