Political Correctness

Merriam-Webster - definition - Politically Correct
- adhering to the idea that language and behaviors that might upset certain social sensitivities (specifically regarding race or gender) ought to be removed.

Wikipedia - The term political correctness - is used today to characterize various languages, rules, or actions meant to prevent offending or disadvantaging specific societal groups. Within standard political debate and the news, the phrase is typically thrown around as an insult, suggesting such measures have gone too far.

A lot of people resent PC, I suppose... but what do you all think about potential alternatives, and maybe whether there's even a real need for one?

Honestly, I don't think things are nearly as dramatic here as they are in parts of Europe or North America.

The media is the best example of this.
If you remember the show Star Trek Voyager, they decided to cast a Black actor to play an alien from the planet Vulcan.

Look, I have zero issues with it. Up until then, every single actor playing a Vulcan had been white, so why not?

But the media got so hysterical about using the word "black" that they actually described him in an article as the "first African-American Vulcan."🤣

The guy is literally from another planet. He’s not from Africa, and he's definitely not from America.😁

The only way to win this game is to master the art of rhetoric—because once you control the language, you can push whatever agenda you want, even if everyone knows exactly what’s actually happening. It's all smoke and mirrors. Look at how people label things today: you've got 21st-century socialists calling themselves one thing, alt-right separatists acting like they're something else, and then you have the "antifa" crowd—who are basically just communists—yet somehow, nobody ever uses the term "anti-communist." Right? You’ll never stumble upon some youth group called "Anti-Communists" out there glorifying fascism, but you can find plenty of "Antifa" groups out there practically worshiping communism. And don't even get me started on Political Correctness. That whole concept is just a joke where people try so hard not to offend anyone that they end up offending absolutely everybody with a million little little slights. I mean, seriously, what even is Political Correctness anymore? Is it considered "correct" to whip up some propaganda flick like The Matrix that targets Westerners? Just hear me out on this specific phrasing—it’s all about the "Euro-Americans." In these narratives, every villain is some Euro-American who isn't even human, while the main architect of global chaos is a Euro-American, and the only opposition to that designer is an African-American Vulcan who saves the planet from those non-human Euro-Americans using robots. Honestly, I haven't heard anyone ever use the term "Afro-European" before.

Political Correctness originally popped up to help clean up the public square in America and Europe by pushing back against the blatant racism and sexism that used to be everywhere. The idea was basically to shut down those old-school bigots the second they started spewing their nonsense.

But man, things really spiraled out of control. Now, it feels like people use it as a way to muzzle anyone who dares to voice an opinion that actually has nothing to do with sexism or racism at its core. It’s become this tool to silence anyone who doesn't toe the line.

Look, we all know deep down that context and intention are everything. But the media, your political rivals, and everyone else? They ignore that on purpose. Because, let's face it, there isn't a faster way to shut someone down than just slapping the label of "racist" or "sexist" on them. Boom, conversation over.

Personally, what really grinds my gears—and I say this with all due respect to how sensitive things have gotten—is how religion gets lumped in with nationality, race, or gender. It just doesn't make sense! Everyone knows you aren't born with a religion; it's something you choose and can change whenever you want. It's totally different from the other stuff.
Now, a nation might be a social construct, sure, but it isn't inherently "wrong" or "immoral." Usually, when people criticize a country, they are actually just picking apart the ideologies that came out of it.

Religion itself is an ideology. Period. So, it should be treated just like any other belief system. Anything that promotes a specific set of morals or social rules deserves to be scrutinized and debated.

You can see how ridiculous this whole PC craze has become regarding religion when you look at the whole "Islamophobia" debate. Nowadays, if you offer even a tiny bit of criticism toward Islam, people treat it like you're attacking the people themselves. It's gone so far that some folks act like anyone questioning Islamic doctrine must be mentally unstable or something. It's wild.

And honestly, if we’re going to follow that logic to its absurd conclusion, then we should have terms for everything, right? Christianophobia, paganismophobia, communismophobia, fascismophobia, atheismophobia... you get the idea. Anyone can feel insulted because someone else holds a view that contradicts their own. And if you think your views are the absolute, ultimate truth, then any disagreement feels like a personal attack.

At the end of the day, you can't fix how people view Political Correctness through news anchors or politicians. That kind of understanding has to start at home and in the classroom. Like I said before, it all comes down to understanding context and seeing the good intentions behind what people say. We need to teach kids how to read between the lines, and that starts with family and school.

Truth should take the place of Political Correctness. No matter how much it stings, the Truth is always the better path.

Nowadays, Political Correctness functions as nothing more than a tool to silence and censor anyone brave enough to think for themselves.
Even Clint Eastwood recently spoke out against this movement, labeling us a "pussy generation."
Everybody’s getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. That’s the kiss-ass generation we’re in right now. We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. WE see People accusing People of being racist and All kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.

👍 At this point, Political Correctness is just merging with outright censorship and verbal delinquency. We need a massive overhaul.

George Carlin is an absolute legend.👍

Everything needs a massive overhaul, honestly. But there’s this other headache that’s been brewing because of Political Correctness, too. It’s gotten to the point where the loudest voices fighting for free speech these days are actually just various fascists. So now, you have perfectly normal people getting lumped in with those extremists and suffering the same backlash, simply because their stance happens to overlap with theirs—even though their actual motives and starting points couldn't be more different. It's such a mess.

Here’s an example:
It’s funny, isn't it? You try to point out some issues with Islam—just a regular critique, mind you—and suddenly, everyone is labeling you an Islamophobe. It happens so fast! And then, before you can even blink, they go ahead and toss you right into the same bucket as those actual fascists who truly despise Muslims as human beings. It's like you can't even have a nuanced conversation without getting lumped in with the extremists. I remember talking about this over coffee near Starbucks the other day, and it's just wild how people jump to conclusions these days. One minute you're discussing theology or social policy, and the next, you're being treated like a monster. It's all very intense!
It’s funny, isn't it? You look at one side of the aisle, and these self-proclaimed champions of Political Correctness are all over the place attacking white fascists left and right. But then, you flip the script, and suddenly they’re playing defense for Islamo-fascists by basically making it illegal to even voice a critique of the religion. It’s wild! Honestly, they’re just walking straight into a trap. They’re practically bundling themselves up in a basket right next to those Islamo-fascists. And you know what happens next? They’re just handing everything on a silver platter to the conservatives. It makes it so easy for them to come out swinging with logic that totally shuts the conversation down—like, "Oh, so you're calling me a fascist, but you're busy shielding Islamo-fascists?" Boom. Argument over. It's like watching a slow-motion car crash where everyone thinks they're driving perfectly fine until the impact.

Honestly, this whole thing is just pure madness. It’s like one big, endless, crazy loop that just keeps spinning around and around.

So, I was just sitting here thinking—and you know how my mind wanders sometimes—about how incredibly easy it would be for us to end up having to change the word "German" because of all this Political Correctness going around. It’s funny, right? Like, imagine if we suddenly decided it wasn't okay to call an entire nation by one label because we didn't want to lump everyone together or imply some kind of collective handicap. It feels like we're heading toward a world where you can't even name a group without someone jumping in to say, "Wait, that's not inclusive enough!" or "You're grouping too many different people into one bucket!" It's wild to think about, but honestly, it's probably just around the corner.

It reminds me of that whole situation over in Greece where the locals on the island of Lesbos were actually pushing to get that specific label for women removed from the legal books. I mean, can you blame them? They were basically saying, "Hey, why should our entire home be used as a synonym for this lifestyle when nobody even asked us if we wanted that association?" It’s like, they didn't sign up for that! And the funny thing—or maybe the ironic part, depending on how you look at it—is that every single year, thousands of couples travel there specifically to hold their weddings right on those shores. It's a bit of a wild loop, isn't it? Just a strange little cycle of identity and tourism.
Of course, those Lesbos women's groups jumped on it immediately, screaming "homophobia" at the top of their lungs. Honestly, it’s always the same story with them. But you know what? One Greek guy actually stepped up and spoke the Truth about the whole thing. He hit the nail right on the head.
So, he’s saying—just imagine for a second—what if we started calling every single serial killer on the planet a Londoner just because Jack the Ripper was the first famous one out of London? It's kind of wild when you think about it that way, right? Like, totally makes no sense!
Just imagine if we saw a headline like this in the papers today: "So, I was just reading the news, and man, things are getting pretty wild out there in Texas. They found twelve women dead—just absolutely devastating. And honestly? It’s looking like it might be the work of a Londoner. So, hey, dear neighbors, please, please stay inside tonight. Seriously, don't go wandering around out there; you never know when a Londoner might be lurking in the shadows. Better safe than sorry!".😁

Oh, and I almost forgot! I was just thinking about this—way back, like twenty years ago, someone actually had this wild idea to rename that famous getaway spot, Coney Island, and call it Ellis Island instead. Just one of those random things that pops into your head, you know?😁

Political Correctness is a lot like communism... it started out as a decent concept aimed at fixing real injustices, but it eventually mutated into this totalitarian monster that we need to bury as fast as possible.
It’s pretty obvious now that PC is on its deathbed. I mean, the fact that calling someone "politically correct" has become a massive insult in today's world says everything you need to know. So, what takes its place?

The Truth, obviously... what else?

btw.

Everything boils down to who gets to be the one in charge of the Truth, and once you hand someone the keys to the Truth, you're right back in the middle of totalitarianism.

There isn't really any objective Truth, just a bunch of different opinions and viewpoints that we all eventually agree to call "Truth" just for the sake of the greater good.

For like 2,000 years, the "Truth" was basically that women were just naturally sinful and untrustworthy, and because everyone accepted that "Truth," they weren't treated as equals. But hey, if that was actually the real Truth, then we should probably force women back into that "true position," right? Hope you agree with me there!

Every bit of politeness is technically a lie, or just Political Correctness, but honestly, it’s necessary for our own survival. If everyone just blurted out exactly what they were thinking every single second, most of us would probably end up dead or in a hospital by now.

So, I think the whole point is about finding a balance and stopping the abuse of PC, rather than people trying to drag us all back to some supposed "Truth."

I guess if we look at how most people define politics, we can apply that same logic to Political Correctness (if politics is just a specific type of chaos, then Political Correctness is just the sanitized version of that chaos).
So, I suppose all that's left is the Truth, which is actually quite liberating.

So... what's the Truth then??

Populism is also just a big, messy game, but I wouldn't call that a "people's definition." Usually, the people are the ones getting caught in the crossfire of populism, especially when they get bombarded with these supposed "truths" that are basically just vague nonsense most of the time.

You left Truth without quotes, yet put "Truth" in them. Interesting choice.
When Truth is actually valued, there isn't much room for populism, or political correctness, or any other kind of fake nonsense.
The Truth eventually comes out, whereas a lie tends to come back at you like a boomerang. Pretty quick, too.

Is there even a real dilemma between Truth and Lies?
I suppose you have to be a politician to think there is.!!!

And another thing... whose Truth are we even talking about? I guess the Truth from the left isn't the same as the Truth from the right, and vice versa? Or maybe the Truth itself is just some version of Political Correctness, whether it's this one or some new flavor?

I mean, you can't just pretend 2+2=5 because that’s an absolute fact, right? An exact truth. But anything involving society or humans? That's always open to interpretation. It changes depending on how much a culture has evolved, but there’s never one final version of the truth. If there were, we’d either all be living like angels sent from above or we’d all collectively take our own lives out of sheer embarrassment.

Just looking at what's happening here, you see three different political-national truths floating around. And don't even get me started on the endless religious truths out there that are just strictly dogmatic... I could go on forever.

If people actually spoke the raw, unvarnished Truth—and if they actually wanted to hear it, no matter how brutal it was—well, that would come with consequences.
So, basically, people shape and refine the truth just to make it hurt less and avoid the fallout. Honestly, the same goes for lies, too.

Exactly! It’s funny, isn't it? Most of those folks who scream the loudest about fighting for the "Truth" against Political Correctness probably wouldn't handle it if someone actually gave them a dose of reality. They'd likely turn around and demand everyone else be Politically Correct just to avoid hearing the uncomfortable parts about themselves.😁

You got a "little" tangled up in your own logic here.
Truth doesn't care about nationality, religion, or how "progressive" someone is... nor does it care if it hurts someone. There is only one Truth. It exists independently of our interpretations, even if those interpretations involve lying.
We can lie to someone to "spare their feelings," but that just means we aren't telling them the Truth.
Even when it stings, the Truth has a positive impact.

Dealing with objective facts is easy. If my chair is blue—it's blue. That's the Truth. If I have three apples sitting on my desk right now, that's an easily provable fact.

But what about the stuff that's harder to prove, or things that might be impossible to verify?

Take a historical battle from a century ago—the liberals claim 50,000 died, while the conservatives insist it was only 5,000 (especially if there were no official records kept).
or
One person claims they were assaulted, while the other claims it was consensual... who is actually telling the Truth?
or
Some will say it's a fact that Jesus existed. Others will doubt it, and some will be certain he didn't... so, what is the actual Truth in all of that?

I mean, look, both "truth" and "lies" are such broad terms, right? Whether you like it or not, they both really depend on how a person or a whole society interprets them and uses them.

Think about it this way: if you were living in Nazi Germany and you were hiding a Jew in your apartment, and then the Gestapo knocks on your door asking if there's anyone else there... if you're a decent, good person, you'd say "no," but that would still technically be a LIE.
So, actually, a lie can have a huge, positive effect on human society sometimes.

Every single day of our lives is basically just a series of compromises. Even basic stuff like being polite—which is a cornerstone of civilization—is pretty much a lie most of the time.
Take how people treat women, for instance. A lot of folks from conservative circles or the Islamic world might look at people from Europe and think we're all just fake hypocrites because we respect women and treat them with dignity. But according to their worldview, the "truth" is that women are "unclean forces," or whatever Uncle Sam would say.

So, who's actually telling the truth and who's lying? Is it me and you, following the social norms we grew up with, or is it some shepherd out in Yemen following a medieval mindset??
One side calls it lying and the other calls it truth, so really, who is Nikola Tesla and who is he actually talking about??😁
