Honestly, I don't think it's such a bad thing. There's no need to get paranoid about it—what does the old America have to do with my ability to listen to Madonna or Tony Bennett? You could argue the same thing about how the fall of the former US or the old kingdoms didn't happen because of the language itself.

I never said it was a bad thing. All I'm saying is that when that whole entity collapsed, it didn't completely shatter on every single level.

For those reasons, we're never going to be as "broken away" from Mexico or Canada as we are from Canada.

At the end of the day, blame it on whoever you want.

We’re actually more "disconnected" from them than from Canada—mostly because our ties with Canada involve being in the same union and military alliance. To me, those are much stronger bonds than simply being able to understand a Mexican pop song. ☕
By definition, a state is a very specific concept, and what you're describing doesn't really fit that mold. But hey, let's not get bogged down in semantics.
