Hey everyone, I'd love to get your thoughts on this.
If this has already been covered, please excuse me, modsβ€”don't ban me! πŸ™‚ You could even jump over to the thread about Mexico if you want, that actually got me thinking.

So, which national anthem is your absolute favorite? Any options are fair game here.
Personally, I think this version of the Russian anthem hits different.

My top pick, though, has to be "You Are the One," β˜•

This reggae rendition of Marley by Serge Gainsbourg is quite something... featuring Bob Marley on backing vocals.

Honestly, the Italian anthem just hits different for me. It’s easily my favorite.

Then you've got others that are pretty damn good too, like the German, French, American, or Russian ones.

I don't know about you guys, but for me, it’s about the soul of the place. You don't just listen to national anthems as if they were some random pop track on Spotify; you don't exactly put them on during a casual hang at a bar.

Aside from our own, my favorite anthem is the American one. πŸ™‚
Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er The Land of The Free and The home of The brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er The Land of The Free and The home of The brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
that The havoc of War and The battle's confusion
a home and a country should leave US no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
fra The terror of flight , or The gloom of The grave : and The star-spangled banner in triumph doth Wave O'er The Land of The Free and The home of The brave
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er The Land of The Free and The home of The brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace , May The heaven-rescued Land Praise The Power that hath made and preserved US a nation
Praise The Power that hath made and preserved US a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er The Land of The Free and The home of The brave!

Brother, I couldn't agree more.

What use is an anthem to stateless people, when our national song is nothing more than a smokescreen.

Here are the Russian lyrics for comparisonβ€”I actually find them quite compelling:

Russia – our holy nation,
Russia – our beloved country.
A mighty will , Great glory –
Yours given for All time!
Chorus:
Be glorious, our free Fatherland,
Age-old union of fraternal peoples,
National wisdom given by our forebears!
Be glorious, our country! We are proud of you!
fra The southern seas to The polar lands Spread ara Our forests and fields
Spread are our forests and fields.
You are unique in the world, one of a kind –
Native Land protected by god!
Chorus
Wide spaces for dreams and for living
Are opened for us by the coming years
Our loyalty to our Fatherland gives us strength.
Thus it was, thus it is and always will be!

Obviously, our national anthem takes the top spot for me, but right behind it comes the anthem of Russia. For third place, I'm torn between the old American anthem and the one from Poland, since they both sound pretty similar to my ears.

I’ve got to say, I'm also a fan of the Ukraine anthem.

Right after Beautifully Yours, God Save the King

1. God Save the King,
Our good King Franz!
Long Live Franz, the Emperor,
In the happiness' brightest Glory!
Laurel branches bloom for him,
Where he goes, toward the Wreath of Honor!
God Save the King,
Our good King Franz!

2. Let from his Flag peaks radiate
Victory and fertility!
Let there sit within his council
Wisdom, Prudence, Honesty!
And with His Majesty's flashes
Only strike justice!
God Save the King,
Our good King Franz!
3. Let an Abundance of gifts upon him flow
Over him, his House and Empire!
Break the Malice Power, expose
Every to eat rascal and Prank!
Your Law be always his Will,
This one equal to our laws.
God Save the King,
Our good King Franz!

4. May he joyfully experience his lands,
His people's highest bloom!
See them, One through brotherly bonds,
Ragen ahead of all others!
And even hear at the edge
Later Edge of the tomb, the Grandchildren's Choir:
God Save the King,
Our good King Franz!

I honestly think the Israeli national anthem is one of the most moving pieces out there. I remember feeling this incredible emotional surge during that USA vs. Israel gameβ€”it was just intense. πŸ™‚

As far as other anthems go, I’ve always had a soft spot for the German, Russian, French, Spanish, and British ones. They just hit different.

To be blunt, our own anthem isn't exactly catchy or melodic... I guess I can't help but wish we had gone with something more like this instead:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVhUQa3JbI0

It's basically that same melody, just updated to actually fit the modern era and how we speak today.

This could just as easily be the anthem for the United States, or perhaps even the entire European Union.
