Hey everyone!
I've got this absolute dinosaur of a rig sitting at home, basically the last decent gaming PC I picked up back in January 2011. π I haven't really played anything in ages, but lately, the gaming itch has come roaring back, and since I've finally scraped together enough cashβabout $2000βI'm planning to pull the trigger on a new build the second my paycheck hits this Monday. I've been falling down the rabbit hole of budget builds for the last few days trying to find the sweet spot, but I figured I'd come here to get some eyes on it first. Hereβs the lineup I'm looking at:
Intel Core i5-8400 (6C/12T, 3.9GHz,19MB,65W,LGA1151) box, stock cooler = $533 (Micro Center)
ASRock B360M-HDV, LGA1151, Micro-ATX, 2x DDR4, Intel B360, S3 4x, VGA, DVI-D, HDMI, 24mo warranty = $190 (Newegg)
G.Skill Aegis DDR4 16GB (2x8GB), DDR4 2666, CL19, DIMM 288-pin, 36mo warranty = $367 (Newegg)
Teamgroup SSD 240GB L5 Lite 3D, SATA = $125 (Amazon)
Seagate BarraCuda HDD, 3.5" 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, NCQ, AF, SATAIII = $107 (Best Buy)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 gaming x 6 GB = $567 (used from Craigslist, 30 days old)
COOLERMASTER Corsair Carbide Series, Micro-ATX, no PSU, black = $82 (Walmart)
Seasonic Focus Plus 550W 80+ Gold ATX = $247 (Micro Center)
Total: $2217
If anyone has a better idea of what I can grab for this kind of money, please speak up. π (I'm planning on paying cash.)
A few quick questions:
Do I actually need an extra fan or some better cooling setup?
Is this case big enough to fit all these parts comfortably?
Is it even smart to be mixing a GeForce card with an Intel CPU and motherboard?
Should I stick with the used GPU from Craigslist, or is it worth spending maybe another $40 or so to get a brand new one?
Also, if I want to burn CDs, do I need to buy a separate drive or is one built into the case?
Thanks in advance!
