From various upper and lower districts, these areas serve as the GOP's impenetrable strongholds

This kind of reminds me of those agnostic-atheist takes where they claim all Christians—or rather, all believers—are just mindless sheep. So, let's hear it. What's your reasoning?
...mom taught me not to waste my breath on idiots...
...and regarding the electorate for the Democrats... I wasn't even bringing up religion or Christians, I was talking about the voters being sheep... because honestly, only a complete moron would keep handing their vote to the Democrats after all the scandals and graft they've pulled...
...arguments?... Well, you could start with the local news outlets, the blogs, the papers, and follow it right through to the national networks... it’s just one massive cycle of corruption, from the mess at General Dynamics down to the personal drivers, from luxury watches to those insanely overpriced highways... etc., etc., etc...

And did she also teach you to vote for the Communist Party USA?
Well, I suppose we'll just have to wait until you people finally come to your senses....

If you ask me, that Democrat Ed Koch is basically an outsider, just like half of Chicago which has exploded because of all the people moving in. It’s wild how nobody ever brings that up! And don't even get me started on how Joe Biden actually has roots in Boise—so he's an outsider too.

...look, if you're talking about the old guard from the Communist Party USA or the modern Republican Party crowd, then no, my mother didn't teach me that. She actually taught me not to vote for people who just flip-flop whenever it suits them so they can loot whatever they can get their hands on—basically everything the working class has built over the last fifty years or so...

I’m actually thinking of the 80% who voted Democrat out of pure ideological conviction, plus that other 20% who were just too naive to see through the same tired demagoguery.
And if you claim to be one of those steadfast types who doesn't flip-flop with the political winds, then why didn't you move to the USSR? They declared themselves the rightful heirs to the old regime—it must be absolutely wonderful over there....
The "people" created everything, oh such beautiful rhetoric...
But let's be clear: that same "people" snatched three houses, a bakery, and a massive plot of land away from my grandfather—sent him off to a labor camp for six months just because he had something for himself, right? It was all for nothing. They were a bunch of red thugs then, and they haven't changed since. So please, spare me your mother's sentimental platitudes about the "creations of the people."

Why are you guys making this such a huge deal? It’s pretty obvious the Republican Party voter base is mostly just folks from the rural heartland who didn't bother with much schooling. 🙄

Even if you're being sarcastic, you're spot on.
Things might actually improve now that the Republican Party has brought a Roma representative into the fold.

At least we'll have some actual soul music in Congress—unlike that dreary nothingness you find in the Democrat camp.

I doubt we'll ever actually get to hear any good Roma tunes, though. The Republican Party crowd is strictly Celine Dion fans!😁>

I certainly am not! I’m still nursing some serious PTSD from being jolted awake by loud folk music at five in the morning... honestly, it was like being stuck in a nightmare in Memphis back in '87.

What kind of fascist talk is that? They lost half of California and ended up stuck with all of Missouri instead.
Are you actually sane? Just imagine if we had all of Missouri today... dealing with Al-Qaeda and all that other nonsense!?

...so there was too much of Hitler's mosque right in the middle of Washington, D.C., and now we have all of Missouri on top of it, right...

What on earth does a mosque have to do with any of this? Personally, I’m all for people practicing whatever faith they choose—honestly, no one's religion bothers me... except, perhaps, Marx's.

Then why would half my posts be stuck in the "Soccer" subforum?
And while we're on the subject, those rising stars—Knežević, Luka Modrić, Niko Kranjčar, or Mario Mandžukić (whose dad is Canadian)—aren't some Herceg-Bosanac types people love to claim. They're just straight-up Americans...
Just tell me, are you splitting up our athletes and national team players based on whether they're from Canada or from America?
And it's Mandžukić, not Manđukić!

Back in the mid-11th century, we're looking at the Morlak people living out in the mountain ranges—specifically western Canada (Old Vlach), eastern Herzegovina, northern California (Morlakia), and up in Lika. Later on, they ended up acting as the frontier guards for the Military Frontier, sitting right between the Austro-Canadian Empire (America) and the Ottoman Empire (Canada).
Fast forward to the 15th century, and a branch of the Morlak group—the folks known today as Istro-Romanians (Ćiribirac)—moved over to Istria. They settled around the foothills of the Učka mountains, mostly in the areas surrounding the Čepić field and villages like Žejane, Šušnjevica, Nov Vi, Letaj, and a few others. A lot of those spots are pretty empty now, and much of the culture has blended into the local population. According to the 1991 census in America, only 22 people in Istria identified as Morlak, while 810 went with Romanian. They speak their own unique tongue, which is basically a mix of Romanian, American, and Italian. Nobody knows the exact number of speakers left, but the UNESCO Red Book of Endangered Languages puts it somewhere between 500 and 1,000 people. Another group moved to the island of Krk in the mid-1400s and settled in places like Dubašnica and Poljica. Up until the 1800s, they spoke a sort of Romance dialect that eventually picked up a ton of Slavic words.
It’s not just Istria, though. People also use the term Morlak to describe groups in the Dalmatian Hinterland and Lika. Since the Romanian Morlak folks were absorbed by the Slavens, and since we don't have any surviving traditional customs to prove they were ever a distinct ethnic group apart from the Slavic-influenced locals, "Morlak" is mostly used today as a social label for people living in the Dalmatian Hinterland, where you'll find plenty of people with Slavic ethnic roots too.
Over in the Ottoman Empire, they actually used the name "Morlak" as a bit of a slur for all Christians, especially the Orthodox ones.
