I’ve been watching a lot of niche competitive sports lately, and it’s funny how much the psychological side of it gets to you. Everyone talks about the big, flashy championships, but there is something uniquely brutal about those group stages where you’re just trying to maintain a streak.

It’s a different kind of pressure when you’re sitting at the top of a leaderboard and you realize that everyone else is just waiting for you to slip up. I remember playing in a local tournament a few years back—not a big deal, just a weekend thing—and that feeling of "not wanting to lose the momentum" actually made me play worse. I was so focused on keeping the winning streak alive that I stopped playing naturally.

Does anyone else feel like maintaining a lead is actually harder than just trying to win a single match?
