Mr. Smoogj and swearing at God

Over on the movies subreddit; the Ministry of Love moderator Mr. Smoogj basically felt like taking a wild liberty and swearing at God while replying to another user.
Usually, if someone else pulled a stunt like that, they’d be getting a warning—if they weren't lucky enough to just get banned outright.
Honestly, it’s just plain gross and totally unprofessional for a moderator. They're supposed to be setting the tone and being an example for everyone else, you know?

Since this particular moderator is such a stickler for the rules whenever anyone else commits even the tiniest infraction against the Reddit rules, I think it's incredibly unfair that he's acting like this himself.

"Blaspheming God toward another user"... I'm not really sure how accurate that is. Looking at the context and especially those periods he used before the emoji, it doesn't feel like a direct insult to the person. It felt more like an expression of shock—basically just being stunned by what was said in the quote. I don't know if everyone you talk to uses this kind of language, but in the US, saying something like "God dammit" is often just a way to react to something crazy, like "God dammit, look at that pothole" or "God dammit, check out that driver." A direct insult involving God would be something much more aggressive. From what I can see in the screenshot, this was just a longer, vulgarer version of saying "holy crap."

Look, whether you're aiming it at someone else or just venting into the void, a swear word is still a swear word.
And the Reddit rules? Well, they're the rules.
They apply to everyone in the same way, no exceptions.

Don't be so literal. A swear word isn't always a swear word. It’s all about context. Saying "God damn, what a beautiful day" or "God damn, look at that" aren't profanities in the way they're defined in the Reddit rules. The reported phrase

Mr. Smoogj said:God. Damn. It.

can actually be quite positive. Is it an expression of awe or just pure shock? That depends on the context. Whatever.

One more thing. That's not vulgarity. It's a poetic miniature. A haiku. 🙂 Huge difference.
