A total waste of time.

Look, I’m not saying the movie was bad, per se, but I really don't get all this excessive praise, the sky-high ratings, the nominations, and all that other nonsense...

Picked up the wins at Walmart for Best Picture and Best actress in comedy / musical 🙂

I can only hope they consider those consolation prizes instead of an Oscar

I don’t know, I found this whole thing completely unwatchable...
It felt like one of those teen movies you’d catch on ABC at 10 AM on a Saturday, just something meant to fill the slot before the midday news starts...

Just another total mystery in this year's festival circuit. I remember like a month ago when they were all over the news announcing how this movie racked up these insane scores on all those niche film sites. Honestly, after seeing the trailer, I was actually kind of hyped for it... but I don't know what the catch is, because to me, this was just super mediocre and totally forgettable. There’s absolutely nothing about it that stands out from the pack, not in the festival scene or anywhere else for that matter. Is the hype just because
is a female director? What gives? The acting ensemble was just okay, the plot has been done a million times and isn't interesting in the slightest, and the ending was just... unclear... Best actress in comedy / musical? I'm pretty sure any female character from The Greatest Showman would've given a better performance..

Honestly, I don't even know what to say. It’s just one of those movies that feels exactly like a hundred others you've already seen... such a waste of time.

Funny thing about these DVDs that hit the torrents last month—every single one of them has a killer rating on IMDb, even though 90% of them are absolute garbage.

I honestly don't get the hype surrounding this movie. It isn't even long, yet it feels pretty tedious. I found myself checking the runtime a few times just to see how much was left. The plot is mediocre, the acting is uninspired, and let's be honest, these aren't exactly demanding roles. The whole thing just feels flat.

Lady Bird is this somewhat strange girl trying to find herself, and while you're probably supposed to feel for her, I just couldn't connect. It's fine for a girl to want more out of life, but she is being completely unrealistic. Despite all her family's financial struggles and her own depression, she still insists on going to NY. That would be fine if she were actually driven, fighting for something, or showing real potential. But given her math grade and the fact that she basically gets away with everything—including her random desire to compete in math for no real reason—it just doesn't track. In the end, she gets "rewarded," though I have no idea why. She essentially gets everything she wants while someone else bears the brunt of it. She's just throwing her weight around.

She got the nomination because she’s basically the go-to for playing those cool teen characters. Overall, the movie is pretty decent and easy to watch. It's just your classic coming-of-age family story that we've seen a million times before. 🍿

This movie is only getting awards and nominations because a woman directed it.

Pathetic and sad...

I really loved this one! It’s such a sweet coming-of-age drama with plenty of funny moments sprinkled in. Just super simple and smooth... you can really connect with the characters.

What’s cool is that it doesn't even go the typical route of bashing Catholic school environments—which seems to happen all the time with movies like this. Instead, it just tells a straightforward story about a teenage girl navigating that awkward phase of first loves, dealing with money struggles, and trying to rebel against everything around her.

But honestly, the most touching part is how she realizes she can't always get what she wants... and then, only after moving away, does she finally see that home wasn't actually that bad after all. 🙂

Such a great movie! All those nominations are totally deserved, especially seeing how much both critics and audiences are loving it. It feels like things are getting a little messy here though 🙂

I feel the exact same way. I’ve always had a massive soft spot for most coming-of-age movies. 😁

Nothing will ever come close to the greatness of Dazed and Confused. ☕

Personally, I don't think this one is half bad—it's solid enough. But I just don't get why everyone is making such a massive deal out of it.

I actually thought this was perfectly fine—just a nice, intimate little coming-of-age dramedy. I felt a real connection to the character played by Saoirse Ronan; some of those scenes with her mom, college, and school felt like they were pulled straight from my own life... 🤣 Maybe it’s because Lady Bird and I share a similar generational vibe—we both graduated in the early 2000s.

I don't get all the bashing. At least this movie didn't feel like a blatant Oscar bait attempt like The Post, for instance. Greta basically filmed a semi-autobiographical story and just happened to hit the perfect timing with the whole Time's Up movement—women are powerful, women can do anything, why aren't there more female directors nominated, blah blah blah—so the hype just built up...

To me, her film is just... honest. It isn't a masterpiece, but it certainly isn't trash either. Awards in Hollywood have always been about politics, PR, and paying back favors anyway. One year it's gay characters, the next it's Black people, then it's strong women... There's really no need to get worked up over the seventh art.

EDIT. Dazed and Confused is a great film, but my personal favorite will always be Stand by Me.

Since this movie isn't trying too hard or acting all high and mighty, it doesn't feel calculated at all. It’s not insulting anyone either—not your intelligence or any of those debatable themes you sometimes see ☕ . There's just this genuine warmth to it. The drama is perfectly paced and stays grounded, without wandering off into unnecessary tangents or whatever else... It’s just such a beautiful film. Whoever made this clearly put their heart and soul into it, and I honestly value that way more than big-name stars, messy scripts, random subplots, political correctness, or just aiming for hits...

I mean, I don't think it's necessarily an Oscar for Best Picture contender, but the performances are incredible and definitely deserve some nominations. 🙂

I second this. Laurie Metcalf was fantastic, though I suspect Janney might take it.

It's a lovely coming-of-age story with such a cozy, homey feeling.

What else is even left at the Oscars? This was actually pretty solid

It’s honestly kind of surprising, really... you have this movie where the Church isn't explicitly mentioned, yet the whole thing just sort of breathes through a religious lens without ever casting it in a negative light 🙏 (I guess I half-expected there might be some tension involving that heavy-set girl who failed algebra, but strangely nothing 🙏). I went in thinking the director might be some hardline Christian, but nope, not even close 🙏

It felt a little forced, maybe... like, the part where she ends up in the men's W.C. because there's a line in the women's, and then she just happens to run into her ex while he's hanging out with another guy 🤣 and then, of course, that same ex shows up at the table later and starts making a scene about the waiting list right in front of her mother 🤣

Anyway, 7/10 🙂
