I was watching some clips earlier and it just got me thinking about the cycle of hope and disappointment in sports. Every single season, or every time a new regime comes in, there’s that massive wave of optimism. We tell ourselves that this time is different, that the culture has actually shifted, and that the mistakes of the past are finally behind us.
But honestly? It feels like a loop. I’ve been following my team for decades, and I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve been promised a "complete overhaul" or a "fresh start" only to see the exact same patterns repeat themselves by the time the preseason even hits its stride. It’s like watching a movie where you already know the ending, but you keep hoping the actors will ad-lib something better.
At what point do we stop buying into the hype? Is it even possible for a franchise to actually break a cycle of mediocrity, or is the "new era" just a marketing tactic to get us to buy jerseys again?
