Can international stars really save the domestic hype?

I feel like these exhibition matches are starting to feel more like marketing stunts than actual competitive sports. Even when the talent is high, it’s hard to get invested when the stakes feel so manufactured. Does anyone else find these "clash of the leagues" games a bit hollow?
