I was scrolling through some sports news earlier and saw another big announcement regarding player ratings in that one major football sim. It got me thinking about how much weight we actually put on these virtual numbers.
I remember back in the day, we used to argue for hours about who the "real" best players were, but now it feels like we just look at a digital slider to settle the debate. It's kind of wild how much influence these developers have over our perception of an athlete's value. If a guy gets a 99 in the game, suddenly everyone treats him like a god, even if his actual season stats are mediocre.
On the flip side, it’s almost insulting when they lowball a player you love, and then you see the internet erupt in "outrage" over a bunch of pixels. It feels like a weirdly intense way to engage with a sport.
Do you guys think these game ratings actually reflect reality, or is it just a marketing tool to drive hype?
