ABC Letters

Greetings!

I just finished installing Windows, and I set everything up using the US language pack. Most programs pick it up without any issues, but a few specific ones are being stubborn.
Is this an issue with the individual software settings, or am I missing something deeper in the system?
I've spent quite a bit of time digging through the settings menus in these programs, but I can't find anything related to language preferences, character encoding, or anything remotely similar to fix this.
It makes me wonder—do these apps pull their font data directly from their own internal files, or are they pulling everything from the Windows system itself?
To be more specific, I'm having trouble with my English and German dictionaries, and also with a graphics program called Adobe Photoshop. When I try to type text using special characters like ABC in Adobe Photoshop while editing photos, the program just strips them away and turns them into plain letters without the accents.

Everything else seems to be running perfectly fine.

I even tried reinstalling the problematic programs entirely, but it didn't change a thing; the exact same issue persists.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer some advice on how to resolve this?

Maybe you could force those programs to actually recognize American characters (like latin-cp1250(?)) which, if I remember right, should be sitting in UTF8. If there's a font setting buried in there somewhere, look for an ANSI/UTF8 option... might be set wrong.

The real headache is that these programs don't even give you access to those kinds of settings.
I mean, they used to run perfectly fine, truly. And then, out of nowhere, everything just went haywire, and now we're stuck with this mess.
Even after a clean reinstall, they won't budge.

I'd need to know which programs we're talking about before I can give you any real details.

As for those dictionaries, they're just standard English and German ones without any special branding.
Honestly, though, I don't really care about them nearly as much as I care about that Adobe Photoshop issue.

You see, when you install suites like Adobe Photoshop and similar software, they often bundle their own proprietary fonts—but the catch is, those specific fonts frequently lack support for certain American characters. To fix that, you’d essentially have to take those files into a dedicated font editor—something like FontCreator or a similar tool—to manually patch them in. If you do that, the issues should theoretically vanish!

Now, if we're talking about a situation where *every* single font is acting up? Well, then we're looking at a different beast entirely. That would suggest that Windows wasn't installed quite right, or perhaps the language and regional settings haven't been configured properly for American English.

Yeah, you can use any font you want in Adobe Photoshop.
These dictionaries come with their own built-in fonts, so there isn't really a way to swap them out.
It doesn't matter if I type in Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman, or whatever else—they stay the same.

I haven't touched Adobe Photoshop in ages, so my memory is a bit fuzzy—but if I recall correctly, I never ran into that issue.
Does this happen with other software too? Like, would you see the same thing in Microsoft Office programs like Word or Excel, or is it strictly an Adobe Photoshop thing?

Everything else runs perfectly fine. I’m talking about Corel, Word, Excel, PowerPoint—literally every other program on my machine works without a hitch. It is JUST that one specific thing and these dictionaries.

Look, if someone decides they want to build an entire website using Microsoft Office, hey, that's their business.
Sure, they might struggle through the process only to end up with something that looks absolutely hideous—but again, that's on them.

It’s not perfect, but it's pretty straightforward and everything is already built into Windows. (I'm running Windows 7)

1. Go here.
You can check the keyboard layout there; it matches what you have in Windows.

2. Go to (Start) Control Panel - Clock, Language and region and then click "Change keyboards or other input methods"

3. Click Keyboards and Languages and then "Change Keyboards"

4. Add " English"

5. Click on "Language bar" and make sure the Language bar is marked as "Docked in The task bar". Once you're done, you'll see a little icon in the bottom right (task bar)

6. While typing, you'll need to switch between English and the other setting every now and then.
Just hit Shift and left Alt at the same time to swap.

That's about it.

My issue is that I can't get rid of the capital I. Every time I type a lowercase i, it automatically turns into an I. Word is fine—I fixed it there—but my emails are still doing it.

Can anyone help me out?
