I had Adobe Reader installed, but for some reason, the update just wouldn't trigger.
So, I went ahead and uninstalled Adobe Reader entirely, thinking I’d just start fresh by installing version 11.
But then, during the installation process, this pops up:
I tried Googling how to fix this, searching everywhere, but nothing seems to work.
It was like a domino effect—I even uninstalled Adobe Air, Flash player, and Photoshop CS5, hoping that clearing out those extra pieces might resolve the conflict, but no luck at all.
If I go into msconfig -> services, I see the Adobe Acrobat Update Service listed there as "running."
Which means everything didn't actually get removed! It's still lurking there! How on earth do I get rid of it? How do I delete it for good??
I attempted to disable that update service in the settings, but when I try to run the installer again, I just hit that same Error 1923.
I've been scrubbing my hard drive like crazy. I deleted every single Adobe folder I could find within Program Files—both the main Adobe folder and the Common Files Adobe folder. I cleared them out for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions in Program Files. I even hunted down the Adobe folder in C -> ProgramData, and deep inside C -> users -> username -> AppData in the Local, LocalLow, and Roaming directories.
And yet... despite all that cleaning, the Adobe Acrobat Update Service is still showing up right there in msconfig -> services.
The strange thing is, this issue keeps happening with Adobe Reader 10 and 11. Version 9 installs perfectly fine, but then the update feature fails immediately after.
Could this be a registry issue? If it is, what specific entries should I be looking for in there?
