Honestly, when you think about it, besides the animated versions and that deconstructionist movie Hook, we haven't really seen a massive, big-budget blockbuster about Peter Pan 🤷

I find this whole obsession with political correctness somewhat absurd. At this rate, they might as well make Captain Hook a Chinese woman, cast Peter Pan as an underage lesbian, or turn Wendy into a trans man from Mexico or an Indigenous person. They could even throw in an alien, given how many followers David Icke attracts—perhaps those fans could fund the production by sending over some money from China. 😁 After all, there is a profit to be made in every direction, isn't there? 😁

Native Americans look like some 60s hippies who found their clothes too restrictive—so they just swapped them for grass and leaves. James Cook comes off as a lost Indiana Jones—it's jarring. The villains, or pirates, dress like a traveling circus—honestly embarrassing. And the big bad, Blackbeard? He looks less like a historical figure and more like Shakespeare tried to design a villain from Flash Gordon's world after meeting Ming. Did I miss anything? Oh, right—in certain details, that pirate ship is a dead ringer for Jack Sparrow's black pearl.

There is actually a TV series called NEVERLAND (2011) consisting of two parts that serves as a prequel.
It was produced by the Syfy channel, but the storytelling is actually quite decent and feels somewhat grounded, or at least plausible within its own logic...

It's a solid film. I watched it the year it came out—I was eleven at the time.
Great casting for the lead.
