Anyone still running Windows 7?

What’s the most budget-friendly version of Windows 7 out there? I need a version that’s completely legit—something I can install on my own machine without worrying about hardware changes later on... though maybe not the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel edition; I'm looking for something somewhere in the middle.

It feels like there are endless traps waiting out there... from those keys being sold that might actually register but aren't technically legal 😕 to the OEM versions you see in retail stores that supposedly aren't legal either, since they're meant to be bundled strictly with a computer. And since ignorance of the law—which is a massive, tangled mess thanks to micro$oft—isn't an excuse for breaking it, I could use some advice. How do I stay completely above board? 🤷

But if you ask me, just buy a single DVD that includes every version of Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit and call it a day.👍

I'm running into the exact same issue. I’ll be listening to a track on my old Windows XP machine at maybe 30% volume, and it sounds perfectly fine—but when I crank that same song up to 30% on my Windows 7 setup, it’s barely audible. It’s like there's a massive drop in output. Honestly, I haven't a clue what's causing the discrepancy. If anyone has any ideas, please help me out.

How much RAM are you guys actually burning through, assuming you aren't absolutely murdering your OS?
From what I can tell, I’m hitting upwards of 1.12GB on my 2GB setup, and that's just with a couple of programs running in the background... It looks like Firefox is the main culprit when it comes to hogging memory...
Looks like I’m gonna have to cough up some cash for another 2GB of RAM.

Don't bother buying more RAM. I've run both Windows Vista and Windows 7 on a measly 512 MB of DDR1 RAM, and it worked like a charm—everything was smooth. It all comes down to how you configure your operating system. Don't waste your money on extra RAM when you don't actually need it; those settings exist for a reason. Ignore anyone telling you that you need an upgrade—that's just nonsense. If I could get everything running perfectly on 512 MB of ancient DDR1 while having multiple things active, you definitely can too.☕

Windows 7 using 2GB of DDR2 RAM... only about 20-30% usage

Just slap another 2 GB in there and enjoy—RAM is dirt cheap these days anyway. And seriously, don't listen to the nonsense coming from Daniel Vaughn3. He’s out here acting like he needs nothing more than his Windows 7 setup with every single service disabled, running MS-DOS programs off floppy disks just to play Tetris... honestly, for his "needs," 512 MB is plenty... hell, he'd probably be fine with 64 KB at this rate...

Daniel Vaughn3... if you were Pinocchio, you wouldn't even be able to get your nose close enough to the screen to see which OS you actually have installed..

Oh, it's totally worth it. 🙂 It looks great, boots up super fast, it's just easy to use, and honestly, there are zero bugs... it's pure bliss. 😁 I definitely recommend going with the 64-bit version. 😉
