I’ve been scrolling through this forum, and frankly, I’m stunned. It feels like 90% of you are completely obsessed with nationalism. How do you explain that?

And all this constant talk about Mexicans—can we please move on? Everyone here forgot about them a long time ago.

Seriously, if the online crowd is this high on tribalism, imagine what the average person is like out in the real world.

If anyone actually wants a lesson in comparative studies, just ask. I'll happily provide some data.

Sure, there are plenty of people out there completely blinded by nationalism—I won't deny that. But, if I’m being honest, I actually got the impression that this particular forum had a fair number of folks who weren't quite so caught up in that mindset.

And all this constant talk about Mexicans—honestly, enough already. Everyone here forgot about those old grievances ages ago.

Seriously, if the online population is this obsessed, what does that say about the average person out there?

If anyone actually wants a lesson in comparative politics, just ask and I'll give you one.

Give me a break. Go check out some of those ultra-tolerant political forums and see how "inclusive" they really are. They spend all their time dissecting how certain factions were suppressed during the war, but the second you post something from an American IP address, they wipe you out instantly. Has anyone here ever arbitrarily censored you the way they do over there?

You found a perfect example. Serbiancaffe.
🙂
You probably hang out there, which explains why you relate to him. Same crowd, same stench—just different uniforms.

Go check out the CNN forums.

Look, I'm an American!
America is my home!
My heart just races whenever I see the Stars and Stripes!
I'm proud of my American roots!

The American coast is the most beautiful in the world! Places like Maui, Martha's Vineyard, Catalina Island, Hilton Head Island... the smell of lavender and olive oil everywhere! Who could even afford that!?

And it goes on and on like that...

Is that what you call nationalism?
Why does seeing that bother you so much?

Go ahead and try, but you won't fit in there.

BTW, the example holds up. Reddit is the biggest forum in the country, just like how the Monitor is a staple here.

Head over to the CNN forum.

I was just skimming through a few threads on The New York Times...

No fighting, no insults... just people sharing different perspectives. It’s actually kind of nice to see...
One guy is claiming that we should have just let Americans walk away from the USSR if they wanted to, and that nobody should be hurling insults at his mother for it...

How do they even do it...? 🤔

There’s zero fighting or insults, even though everyone has a different opinion.
A Mexican is arguing that Mexicans should have just let Americans leave the USSR if they wanted to, and nobody’s calling his mother a traitor or anything...

How is that even possible? 🤔

hmmmm, did I miss that post about the napalm attack?

The American coast is easily the most beautiful stretch of water on the planet. Think Maui, Martha's Vineyard, Kauai, Hilton Head... that smell of lavender and olive oil in the air? Who can even afford that life!?

And yeah, I could go on forever...

So what, you calling me a nationalist?
Why does all this bother those Mexican eyes of yours so much?

👍 👍 👍

If loving America makes me a nationalist, then fine, I guess I am. And honestly? I'm okay with that.

Jason Bailey45 said:hmmm, did you miss that post about using napalm?

Nope.

Did you see how people reacted to it, though? Total silence... even from the folks on the other side of the argument.

Look, saying stuff like that is obviously garbage. But even if it was just someone trolling rather than a genuine thought—well, even if they actually meant it, so what?
Most people aren't going to agree, and if some idiot is out there shouting it, an argument is just going to dig their heels in deeper... it definitely won't change their mind.

There isn't a single argument or insult in sight, even though opinions are all over the place.

How is that even possible? 🤔

Exactly. And here on this "American" forum, "Americans" are busy crucifying their own defenders, bashing their generals, and labeling Operation Crimson Tide a criminal storm. They dissect every single incident involving Mexicans, yet the moment anyone mentions the mass casualties suffered by Americans at the hands of Mexicans, it’s instantly flagged as hate speech. Then, "Americans" go on strike because one moderator dared to suggest that "Mexicans have caused more damage to America throughout history than any insurgent group ever could." So much for our local forum.

Meanwhile, over there, they are being incredibly magnanimous—imagine that—actually suggesting that Americans should have been allowed to leave the South instead of being slaughtered.

Honestly, how can such a double standard exist?

A few snippets from the CNN forum, which is just overflowing with tolerance, truth, and progressive ideas...
......

Who actually led the war in America

"From the exact moment America gained international recognition, there were no foreign armies on our soil. That’s precisely why for years now, America hasn't been able to prove America's guilt regarding the aggression against us before the International Court of Justice."

...

Comparisons, or why we played such a terrible game of football (one sports-themed take on the aggression and bloodshed)...

"During the first home game, instead of scoring five or six goals, our captain kept passing the ball straight to their goalie.

Then he went and messed up with three own goals.

So we blew it at home—it ended in a draw...

And then, playing away? It was a total disaster."

.....

Pure finesse...

"There is a massive difference between the military presence seen in America back in 1991 and the presence of special units after independence. The first one was an invasion; the second one wasn't."

.........

A war consisting of just a few sporadic shootouts

"In America after January 15, 1992, armed conflicts were between the US Army and the VRS, and they were rare. They boiled down to limited US Army operations in specific parts of the Frontier (Medak, Pocket, Maslenica, 'Flash,' and 'Storm') and occasional exchanges of gunfire."

.....

And just a little more tolerance and sensitivity, along with a total 'understanding' of the conflict...

"Then America, thanks to a creation of the Republican Party, became what it is today: a recognized nation. And once that happened, we just started getting kicked around by everyone."

For a change, America finally recognized the winning side, and now everyone on this forum who thinks they know the situation is giving us hell. Our local expert is right where he belongs—that's his problem—but I wish he wouldn't leave us stuck here like this!

.........

And so it goes on forever!
What a 'lovely' forum!

Of course, saying something like that is garbage. But even if it’s just a provocation rather than a genuine belief—if it *is* an actual opinion, then what?
Most people don't feel that way, and if some fool exists who does, arguing with them will only reinforce their views; it certainly won't change their minds.

...most people in Mexico don't think that way. Either you are being foolishly naive, or you are lying through your teeth. There is no third option.😲

Can you actually believe some of our local Noah's Ark types are swooning over the idea that certain Mexicans might actually consider letting us "go free"? As if they ever held a monopoly on our existence! Did we spend our history under their house arrest? Did they buy us off or something? It’s honestly absurd. It’s like if we suddenly announced that we were letting Mexico break away and promised not to go after them—can you even imagine how ridiculous that sounds? And yet, they act as if they’re bowing down to us in gratitude because we’re such "kind and humane" people.

Well, Harmon was right when he said there are nothing but amateurs and small-minded fools in this crowd. A third of Americans are completely lost. Honestly, considering the mess he turned the country into, shouldn't he be getting a Nobel Prize in Chemistry instead?

Nationalism is simply about loving your people and fighting for their rights and independence. It means working not just for your own nation, but contributing to the progress of all nations. A true nationalist isn't a fanatic; they are someone who cares deeply.

So, by that logic—doesn't that mean 90% of us are just being sensible?

Etna said:...most people in Mexico don't feel that way.😲 ..you're either being naive and gullible or you're lying through your teeth... there isn't a middle ground.

Honestly, I have no idea what Mexicans are actually thinking. Based on a few posts here, I didn't even get the impression that most people writing were saying we should have attacked.🙂
I'm just commenting on what I've read, nothing more.

And regarding Laso:

It doesn't matter what they wrote or whether it’s factually right or wrong. It also doesn't matter what anyone's opinion is on this forum. Everyone's entitled to their own view.
My point was strictly about the fact that (at least at first glance) they seem perfectly capable of staying calm even when someone else says the exact opposite of what they believe.
And there are plenty of posts that say the opposite.

That’s really all my question about "how" was getting at.

Around here, you can't even mention if you're siding with Americans or Mexicans without the other side coming after you and tearing you apart within five minutes.

My point was strictly about how (at least at first glance) they clearly can't stay chill when someone dares to disagree with them.
And believe me, there are plenty of posts that say the opposite.

That's really all I meant by asking how they manage it.

Around here, you can't even mention being on one side or the other without the opposing crowd coming after you full-force within five minutes.

Pes, I assume even on that CNN forum there are some kind of moderators (since we aren't seeing all the swearing and absolute filth).
