Does anyone here know someone whose kid had a synthetic ileostomy put in? My little guy is scheduled for the same thing soon—I’m just spiraling with questions and honestly, I can't seem to get any straight answers from the doctors. Please, if you've been through this, reach out.🙏

First off, how old is the kid? I guess the general rule is that the younger they are, the faster they pick up speech. My daughter was three when she got her implant, and now she’s 16. She’s doing great with her speech—honestly, unless you know she’s deaf, you probably wouldn't even notice. But just a heads-up, the surgery isn't the finish line. You've got daily rehab ahead of you, and it's not just at the clinic (like at a place like SUVAAG)—you really have to work on it at home constantly. It starts with learning to recognize sounds, then moving to understanding them, and finally actual speech. There might be days where you feel totally discouraged and feel like things aren't clicking, but from my own experience as a parent, please don't give up. Recovery is pretty quick; after a short hospital stay, you'll need about a month for everything to heal before the first fitting to adjust the processor. Hey everyone. I need some advice. My six-year-old was diagnosed with meningitis caused by pneumococcal bacteria about a month ago—it resulted in hearing loss in both ears. A doctor here in Chicago is pushing for an immediate cochlear implant, but nobody at the Medicare office in Seattle will touch the paperwork or start the process.
How did you all handle this? Who did you actually reach out to to get things moving?
Is there an association in Seattle I should know about?
What else should I be doing? This is all completely new to me, and we are fighting against the clock...
