ATM fees

Hey everyone, sorry if I'm accidentally double-posting here—I tried searching for this, but I'm honestly pretty clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff.

So, here's what's on my mind: I’ve got some cash sitting in my account at JPMorgan Chase, but there isn't an ATM from them anywhere near me right now. I was wondering, can I just go ahead and use an ATM from a different bank, like Bank of America, to pull my money out? I'm guessing they might charge some kind of fee for that, or am I stuck having to track down a JPMorgan Chase machine somewhere?

Sure, you can use pretty much any bank, though they'll hit you with fees. But if you use JPMorgan Chase, there aren't any.

I was actually thinking about it, but I wasn't totally sure. I'm out by the coast right now, kind of in the middle of nowhere, and the only place around here is Bank of America.

Does anyone know what the commission looks like at other banks? Is it usually around 2-3%?

Still no luck, I just tried hitting up a Bank of America ATM and it’s still giving me grief. The thing is, the cash I'm actually trying to grab is sitting over at Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo was having some major system glitches yesterday and today. Probably why you can't touch your own damn money!

Yeah, it’s definitely because of those technical glitches. Even though they supposedly sorted things out at the local branches, the updates haven't hit the ATMs yet. I guess that's why I couldn't get any cash out earlier, but they're saying everything should be back to normal by tomorrow.

$667 using my Mastercard from Wells Fargo.

I don't have the exact figure for the Federal Reserve's specific fee structure, but most major banks charge $3.25 per transaction for amounts up to $267, and once you cross the $267 mark, they typically tack on an additional 1%... which means you're looking at roughly $6.75... or at most $10...

They’re going to hit you harder than that. You’re looking at a 3.5% cut because you pulled cash from a card—plus there's that extra fee for using an out-of-network bank... So basically $23 on top of whatever the ATM charges you.

The parent bank is the one hitting you with that cash withdrawal fee—and I’m fairly certain darkmaker94 knows exactly what that figure looks like... as for the second part of your question, I already gave him my take 🙂

Oh! And don't forget the cut that goes straight to the card networks (like Mastercard or Visa)!

If you're using a JP Morgan Chase card at a different ATM, the fee is $30 (or 4.5%), which is what they'll hit you with based on the amount you take out.

As for being charged just for using some "random" ATM—I've honestly never heard of that happening 🤷!

man, I used to do that for my old man all the time so I wouldn't know. Honestly, I've got like 100 cards and things move so fast, I once misclicked while trying to hit a new ATM and just went for it.👎
