I honestly feel like Aztec deserved a ban for this one

So, here's the thing—I ended up getting banned just because I sent him a private message. And look, I wasn't being rude at all! I just told him it wasn't really cool to pretend he was a New Yorker when he’s actually from Saratoga Springs. But apparently, that was a crime! Meanwhile, he gets to post things calling me names—calling me a "dummy" and some other stuff—which, hey, I can take personally, but shouldn't I have at least been allowed to defend myself without my reply getting nuked? It feels a bit lopsided, doesn't it? Either let me speak my mind without the insults, or give him the ban instead.

I wonder how much work the moderators think they’ll have to put in before you finally decide to stop posting this kind of stuff

Mind if I jump in here and expand on this a bit?
I’m genuinely curious about how things actually work around here. 🙂

Here’s my question:
Why does the administration still tolerate this constant, frantic rehashing of old wars? We have an endless influx of Americans and people from Canada flooding the site with their religious debates 😳 and all this extra noise that prevents the rest of us from focusing on what actually matters in our own struggling, neglected corner of the internet.

Look, I don't want to deal with this back at home. 😕
So why are you letting them dump all their drama right here on our turf? 😕
Don't they have their own forums? Their own economy, media, sports teams, or even just their own culture? 😳

There was even a near-religious crusade breaking out on the religion threads once upon a time... honestly, I don't quite get the logic behind the forum's political stance.

Anyway, I figured I'd ask how things stand. Hope I'm not overstepping. 🙂

Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many times I've been hit with these ridiculous, snobbish labels lately—it's getting pretty old! And honestly? They're totally missing the mark. This particular person directed one at me just a few days ago, claiming I was some kind of unrefined caricature, which was also completely off base. Just a total swing and a miss!😁Wait, isn't it a bit of a stretch to think they’ll actually call it quits just because of a 45-point gap? That feels like a pretty wild overestimation if you ask me!
Honestly, at the end of the day, all those insults just roll right off my back—they’re pretty hilarious to me and definitely don't get under my skin! But, since my last reply somehow got wiped away, I figured I’d reach out. Either Aztec can go ahead and ban me, or maybe they could just let me post again? I promise I'll keep things civil and leave the insults out of it this time!

why the admins are still letting this endless, repetitive war talk go on, along withthe constant influx of Americans and people from Canada flooding the Reddit threads, not to mention all their constant huffing and puffing😳and the whole massive circus they put on that basically prevents the rest of us from actually focusing on anything important in our own somewhat messy and neglected backyard.

I mean, seriously... I really don't want to have to deal with this drama at home.😕

I'm a little lost here... are you saying you want them to be banned from the Forum entirely?

Emily Kim67 said:I don't get it... are you saying they should be banned from Reddit?

Yeah... that’s exactly what I’m getting at. 🙄
But I'm sure you aren't the only one who read it that way, which is kind of the whole issue here.

You clearly missed some pretty vital points later in my post, like this part:
why are you letting them keep spreading their garbage here? 😕

I've been watching these professional trolls poison the well for too long, making it impossible for us to actually focus on what matters.
That's why I'm speaking up. 🙂

I've watched for far too long as these ruthless groups run the political scene, poisoning kids with all sorts of horror stories.

Yeah... I think we tolerate way too much dangerous nonsense. It's about time someone drew a line in the sand so we can deal with our own massive problems.

The reason is simple: because too much of this stuff is tolerated—from politics down to the government, there's a level of chaos that isn't going away anytime soon.

(And it's not just politics... there's plenty of material everywhere.)

Regardless of the good intentions people have been trying to project lately.

So... I noticed the thread starter got banned mid-sentence. Is 😬? Honestly, I wasn't looking to see this topic shut down because it’s actually pretty important to me.

I'll throw out an example I saw recently.

PilotInstructor said:The Church isn't going to war for anyone. Believers won't let some pathetic, consumerist small-timers dictate how they live. If my freedom has to be conditioned by the blood of traitorous, despotic fellow citizens, then so be it.👍 👍

You're twisting words and playing dirty. Get it through your head: we live in a democracy where the majority opinion matters.
When you talk about "education regarding Church funding," you're just pushing your own version of the truth. That's not happening, nor will it be presented, because the world hasn't gone to hell just yet—so immoral despots and murderers like you and your kind don't get a say.👍👍

This post somehow went unpunished for a few days. Here's the link.

Look, this borders on politics, and I know most people wouldn't care, but this specific post is significant.

The term "immoral despots and murderers"
is being used to describe the establishment and those who defend it.

Seriously... do you all realize what this guy just said, or even the implications of posts like this?

Can you take a step back and see where this kind of mindset—let's call it mental darkness—actually comes from?

Don't you see how these types of people provide the perfect cover for those professional opportunists mentioned above? It's all a distraction.

Honestly, I can't wrap my head around how posts like this still fly today, or how you can't see that this is exactly the kind of thing we don't need in our daily lives anymore.🤷But hey, whatever.🤷

hollowdriver18 said:Exactly... that is actually precisely what I was aiming for 🙄
but I honestly suspect you aren't the only person who might read it that way, and I think that’s where the real trouble lies

It looks like you might have missed some pretty crucial points later on in my post, such as this part here

Oh, I didn't miss them at all! It's just that I'm having a hard time seeing how your suggestion could actually work in practice, unless we just flat-out ban everyone from neighboring countries from accessing it.
I've spent far too much time watching these professional trolls poison our discourse and making it impossible for us to focus on what really matters to us.
That's why I'm speaking up.🙂

I've watched for way too long as these aggressive groups take over politics and feed those poor kids nothing but pure horror stories.

Yeah... I really feel like there's way too much dangerous stuff being tolerated, and it feels like it's finally time to draw a healthy line in the sand so we can get back to dealing with our own messy problems.

But how? What's the actual plan for separating out the people you're talking about?

How, though? How exactly are you planning to single out the people you're talking about?

Mind control, obviously. What else? 🤣

And what’s next, banning Americans? Like, why would I care what someone from Canada thinks about how we live here? Let's just stick to arguing about our own messy country instead.🧐
Or maybe a Buddhist.
Because honestly, why would I care about Buddha when I've got my Jesus? 🙂

🙄

We might as well just call this an American Reddit specifically for Americans. And only Catholics. Non-smokers and non-drinkers too. Everyone else can beat it—how do you even dare click this link? 🙂

How, though? What’s the actual mechanism for filtering out the specific people you're talking about?

I guess the mods know which users are "problematic" enough🤷
instead of just cutting off the constant trash talk regarding historical factions and political extremists right at the start.🤷

What's even the point of this endless cycle of rehashing old grievances?🤷

Why are we still letting these endless arguments from Canada spill over into our space?🤷

What does any of that have to do with us? Honestly, who cares.🤷

Look, let's skip the small talk, please
hollowdriver18, look, politics here is basically stuck under the mortgage of some crazy house, so everything just happens all at once in volumes that the mods simply can't keep up with cleaning up
we're actually working on getting rid of that mortgage right now, and once we do, politics will finally live up to its actual name, and the partisans and the rest of them can go back to the woods where they belong
obviously, we aren't going to, and can't, ban anyone from coming to the Reddit, but I totally agree that things should be based on topics we actually care about, rather than using this place as a playground for people to bicker over stuff like Americans fighting with Albanians or debates that have nothing to do with American politics

Well... this actually gives some people a little hope, I guess 🙂

But we aren't out of the woods yet 😳

The insults and labels listed above have basically become the new norm... it's just...
I mean... how is this even possible? 🤷

Not too long ago, there was a thread here where a bunch of us showed up to point out that decent political discussion was becoming impossible

Can we at least start brutally cracking down on stuff like this? I don't know... maybe so people finally learn how to actually have a dialogue instead of having their own weird subculture forced on them in digital spaces

Meanwhile, some of us get flagged just for saying "damn" 🙂

Do you see how idiotic that is?
Someone once suggested an official "Idiot Card" institution, and honestly, they were onto something 😳

I vividly remember that whole situation regarding Chicago and how those same types of people were insulting us then, too. And why? Just because we were pointing out blatant criminal activity—not just locally, but on a national level
And for months, people were being shamed while the same nonsense repeated itself. On the other side, they just insulted us, threw the same labels around, and started calling for blood and all that crap
Just think about the chaos that was happening before you decided to moderate things a bit more strictly; by then, most of us were already completely fed up

I don't get it. Weren't there enough examples and pleas for basic common sense to make you realize that this thing is alive? It’s unclear to me why you still allow this behavior to be forced upon us in online spaces when it has nothing to do with our culture 🤷

And as for the biased way topics are set up to keep me from speaking...

hollowdriver18 said:I guess the mods probably have a knack for spotting those "troublemaker" users on the Reddit thread🤷

See, being a troublemaker is just about the behavior itself—it’s about being a problematic user. It shouldn't have anything to do with whether someone is an American, from Canada, or their religious background! Honestly, I just don't see the logic, let alone the fairness, in punishing users more harshly just because they have a different nationality or faith.
so we shouldn't immediately shut down all that constant bickering over old historical factions and political divides🤷

But why should we shut them down? It seems like those topics are exactly what they're interested in! If they cross the line of decency or whatever, then sure, give them a ban. We can't just "exile" them from the conversation when we've had our own share of intense political clashes and historical debates here in the States too.

what's even the point of all this endless repeating and counting and obsessing over the past🤷

Well, if they keep talking about it this much, it feels like there's clearly still unfinished business there.

why are we still letting these old arguments from Canada spill over into our space🤷

Maybe we'll get our turn to throw things back at them, and maybe it'll last even longer! They've probably just lost some trust, and now they're trying to push it back on us.

what does Jesus have to do with any of this, I honestly don't care🤷

That's just what you call foreign policy.

I’m honestly all for adding little badges next to people from Canada—that way, you know exactly who you’re dealing with before the conversation even starts!
As long as there’s a specific sub-forum or dedicated thread for Canada, I don't see why anyone should be surprised when users from there (and the same goes for Americans) show up to chat.

Just to call out some seriously unfair moderation on this thread once more... A user here actually called me a slur, yet somehow walked away with 45 points. Then, when I jokingly replied that I was Chinese when asked about my nationality, I got slapped with 55 points and an immediate ban!
I’d really love to hear an explanation from the moderators on this one...

Emily Kim67 said:A problematic user is just that: a problematic user. Not a problematic American, or someone from Canada, or a Muslim. What kind of logic—let alone justice—is there in punishing a user more strictly just because of their nationality, religion, or background?

That’s not what I meant... why are you being like this?
I’m talking about the trolls.
I can smell them coming from miles away, and it’s always the same old nonsense.
It’s like how some crew at a soccer game manages to ruin everything in two plays, preventing everyone else from actually having fun without all the unnecessary drama.🤷

And why cut them off? Clearly, these topics interest them. When they cross the line of decency, or whatever, just give them a red card. We haven't had those constant chat wars over old political divides or tribalism for a long time, so why should we just "deport" them from the conversation?

Because it stops us from dealing with stuff that actually matters.
You have no idea how often discussions get trashed because of that "us vs. them" mentality.
And while huge groups of people are getting hooked by all kinds of virtual—and potentially dangerous—bait, corporations are out there robbing us blind without a second thought.😁

So yeah... it’s starting to feel like we’re being intentionally poisoned with these topics. It feels like it might even be in the interest of many "regular Americans" to keep the masses distracted with these never-ending, outdated arguments.

Maybe the fact that they talk so much means the matter isn't settled yet.

Fine, then let them go argue about history and historical topics instead.🙂

"We'll" get them back too, maybe even harder and longer. They lost their footing, and now they're trying to strike back.

Give me a break.🤣

Yeah, sure... every other bar we walk into plays nothing but old-school folk music now. It wasn't always like this.
That's called foreign policy.

See, I actually think that's where the catch is.🙂

To us, it's foreign policy, but to them, it's still very much domestic.😁

Whatever. We can't really avoid it; we're stuck with it.
Look, I’m all for being market-driven. If we can make trade profitable for both sides and base our entire relationship on those economic fundamentals, then I’m in.

As for everything else? Honestly, if you ask me, we’re much better off focusing on broader foreign policy matters out there in the world rather than getting boggeduk in this.😁

Besides... it’s not like we have hordes of villains swarming us here, right?😳
