Here’s the situation. I managed to drop 50 pounds in just over two months. I’m sitting at about 170 lbs now at 6'1"... which, on paper, looks like my sweet spot. But here’s the catch: before I started this journey, I had a fair amount of belly fat. And honestly? It’s still there. Even though there's significantly less of it, it hasn't quite disappeared. Based on my current weight, I wouldn't even call it fat anymore; it feels more like loose skin.
So, my question is... can I actually firm this area up with specific exercises, or am I out of luck?
I’d ideally love some recommendations for targeting the lower abdomen. I’ve been hitting the core hard for a while now—doing about 400 reps a day—but the definition is only showing up on my upper abs.

Thanks.

Yeah, I’m dealing with the same crap. Losing weight too fast while the loose skin fails to catch up. Ideally, you aim for about 10 pounds a year. It takes just as long to shed the weight as it did to put it on if you want the skin to actually tighten. Otherwise, you just end up hanging there looking like a 200-pound guy with a gut. 🙂 Don't rush it. Just work on your core strength. Honestly, skin and muscle aren't even connected—there's a layer of fat in between. It really just depends on how much excess skin you're dealing with. You need patience; it might take a few years for things to settle. If you aren't willing to wait, look into surgery. The most important thing when dealing with loose skin is maintaining a steady weight. Don't gain, don't lose. Exercise will help you get toned, but that's about it.

Losing 50 pounds in just two months? Honestly, man, you’ve gotta be kidding me. That sounds incredibly unhealthy, though I suppose there's no point in crying over spilled milk once the weight is gone. The real issue is that you're going to be dealing with a ton of loose skin for years to come—assuming, of course, that the weight stays off this time.

If you want a quick fix for the sagging skin, your only real option is plastic surgery, but you have to consider the massive scars that come with it. I haven't looked too deeply into the surgical side of things myself, so I might be slightly off on the details, but that's my impression. Before you jump into something as drastic as an operation, though, why not try sticking to a solid workout routine and maintaining your new weight for six months to a year? Just see how your body settles in first...

Aaron Lopez43 said:So here's the deal. I dropped about 50 pounds in just over two months. Now I'm sitting at 170 lbs and I'm 6'1"... so according to the charts, I guess I'm at an ideal weight. But, before the diet, I had this gut hanging out... and honestly, it's still there... even though it's way less than before. Based on my actual weight, I don't think it's fat anymore, maybe just loose skin...
Question is... can you tighten that up with exercises, and if so, which ones?
Ideally, I need stuff for the lower abs, because I've been hammering crunches for a while now—like 400 a day—but I'm only seeing progress on my upper abs.

Thanks.

Man, did you seriously think you’d go from 220 lbs to a shredded physique in two months just by dieting? I mean, maybe you didn't realize how that works. Personally, I don't think you should have just starved it off; you should've done cardio, eaten right, and stayed hydrated... though I guess that's still solid advice even now...
and you could probably hit up a local Planet Fitness or something, right?
