Best audio recording software?

I’m looking for some software that can record audio—but not from a microphone, I mean directly from the system audio itself.
For example, I’ll be listening to some live stream on a website and I’d love to just grab the audio and save it...
Does anything like that actually exist??

I think it is. Audacity The software is perfectly fine for what you need—though, let's be honest, that doesn't exactly scream "high-end audiophile."

You unzip the file (obviously)...
To record audio, you pull up a page on YouTube for a quick test run, then launch the software.
Just click on "Transportation.(One option above.)
So, there you have it.Record... and the cameras are already rolling.

When does enough become enough?
Just click on "Stop.The button—the one with the yellow square on it.
So then, on...File(One option above.)
And there it is. Over at...Export"
Type in the filename you want, pick your format (for example, ".txt"), and then hit enter.MP3 files."), click on "Options.(below, underneath "SaveI.Cancel") and your destination."Bit Rate Mode", "Quality.I.Channel moda"...

I mean, I get how to use it, but right now it’s just picking up sound through the mic—what I actually want is to set it up so it pulls audio directly from my PC instead.

I actually went digging through the Audiothread settings looking for some options, but I couldn't find anything... total dead end.
