Best laptop for 2D/3D modeling?

Hey!

Looking for a laptop for some 2D/3D modeling work. I'll be running stuff like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and similar heavy hitters. No gaming involved.

My current Acer has been grinding through work for 7 years now, so it’s done its job, but I'm not picky about the brand.

Screen quality isn't my main priority—I just need things to run smooth. I've already got a desktop setup for everything else.

Storage space isn't a big deal for me.

Doesn't even need to come with Windows.

Screen size: 17 inches

Budget: $9,000-$10,000$0.00

Store: Online or physical, as long as they take Diners Club and offer installment plans.

This one's my top pick. I'm just not 100% sure if Diners Club takes installments at this shop, though. It’s probably buried somewhere in the fine print on the site.

Our selection isn't exactly massive since the stuff they're stocking in our local stores right now is pretty mediocre, plus finding a 17" laptop is way harder than grabbing one of these smaller ones. If you want to look elsewhere, here's what else is out there:

Since you mentioned 17" laptops are pretty hard to find, you think it’s smarter to just grab a smaller one? Like, maybe a 15" would be plenty for when I'm out and about, then I can just dock it to a monitor at home or the office...

If that's the move, you got any recommendations in the same price range?

Look, you're the expert on your own workflow here. If you’re planning on grinding away at this thing for hours as your main workstation, go for the 17" model—that extra screen real estate is a lifesaver. But if you're constantly hauling it from coffee shops to meetings and just plugging into a desktop monitor when you get home, then portability is king. Go smaller.

Since any decent laptop rocking the latest Quadro graphics cards is gonna set you back north of 13 $0.00, your best bet is actually looking at "gaming" rigs. Out of all the gaming laptops out there, these specific models have the least obnoxious designs, so you won't feel super awkward pulling them out in a professional setting. 😁

If you aren't in a massive rush to buy, I’d honestly suggest holding off for a few months. Intel is expected to drop some new laptop chips soon, which usually means we'll see prices start to dip.
