Best laptop recommendations under $900?

My last laptop was a Dell—can't even remember which model—but it stayed surprisingly cool. I’ll admit though, I wasn't always the best about keeping it off my bed...
Now I'm on the hunt for something new.
Any suggestions within this budget? Looking for something solid running Windows.
