Hi,
I'm looking for some laptop recommendations for my son. He’s starting an engineering program at a major US university and needs something reliable for his coursework.
The primary use will be academic: heavy web browsing, Microsoft Office, some Adobe software (specifically Adobe Acrobat), and running educational versions of SolidWorks and CATIA. When he's not studying, he'll mostly just be using it for YouTube and watching movies.
I'd prefer a 15.6-inch screen. My budget is roughly $5,000--$2000 (I can be a little flexible either way). Weight and dimensions aren't really a dealbreaker for us. We already have licensed Windows and Microsoft Office ready to go.
To be honest, I care more about value for money and decent customer service than any specific brand name. I currently use a Dell laptop and I'm happy with it, so I might lean toward Dell if the specs match up, but I'm open to suggestions depending on what else is out there.
We'll likely pick it up in Washington, D.C., though I'm totally fine with an online deal if it's better. One thing is non-negotiable: I need the ability to pay in 12 installments or more using an American Express or Diners Club card. :/
That should cover everything. Thanks in advance for the help!
