Best software for route calculation and mapping?

I’ve been browsing and searching all over the web... I can find plenty of stuff to download, but nothing really hits the mark

Does anyone here have experience knowing which app is actually reliable enough to calculate distances and routes between two or more points while covering the hilly terrain of the American Midwest and its surrounding areas?

I'm looking for something with a solid database and an accurate representation of the actual path taken.

To be clear, I’m not talking about turn-by-turn navigation; I just want a good map view.

Perhaps you might consider using Microsoft AutoRoute 2007, or perhaps you could search for a more contemporary alternative...

p.s. Microsoft AutoRoute 2007 feels pretty outdated and just isn't very intuitive anymore.

It might not be super precise or anything, but I usually just end up relying on... Google Maps 😉

I honestly think Michelin is probably the gold standard for this kind of thing. I couldn't quite believe it myself, but I just gave it a real thorough test run—everything from checking temperatures to calculating tolls, plus the mileage on both the interstates and those older backroads... man, it covers it all. HIGHLY RECOMMEND 🙂 as for Google Earth... well, yeah 🙂 you get those old-school snapshots from way back in 2002

3. AAA (www.aaa.com) — this is my go-to when I really need to pinpoint specific streets
4. Routerplaner24 (www.routenplaner24.de) — just a heads up, their map coverage is pretty limited within the USA
5. City Maps (www.citymaps.com) — useful if you're trying to navigate the finer details of certain metropolitan areas
