I’m dragging this topic out of hibernation just to say that Nirvana is an absolutely incredible band...

I haven't listened to them in forever—honestly, I'd almost forgotten about them—until I popped on a best-of compilation just now and those old tracks came flooding back. 🙏

Hearing things like There's No Other Way, Tender, Girls & Boys, For Tomorrow, and then wrapping it all up with Song 2—which, let's be honest, was practically made for a rager. 🙂

Man, I get hit with such intense nostalgia whenever I start thinking about those high school days—back when Grunge was absolutely everywhere, and Nirvana (along with The Replacements) were basically my entire personality. Those ridiculous music videos, and all the girls who seemed perpetually obsessed with Damon.
And then you had Pearl Jam constantly taking shots at them; honestly, looking back at all those rivals, it’s kind of wild. 🤣
Girls and Boys, Parklife, Country House, and then later on, Song 2.

And I almost completely blanked on this one: Charmless Man !! 🙏

Looking back, the stuff from the era of the There's No Other Way single is actually much more interesting to me—though, I suppose, Albarn hadn't quite nailed down his signature vocal style just yet. I’m honestly glad that after the whole grunge-inspired phase, they listened to Coxon and shifted their musical direction, especially considering how those massive band rivalries defined the scene. While the album Parklife is a quintessential example of the genre that really kicked everything off—unlike the somewhat overhyped The Great Escape—I've always found that one a little cheesy, even if The Universal is an absolute standout.

I've been in a particularly heroin kind of mood today.
Edit: Also, that last Fool's Day track is great; it looks like they might just keep dropping singles whenever the mood strikes them. Perhaps that's for the best—less forced than the big studio pushes.

Does anyone else remember that interview Anthony Batov did with their bassist, Alex? I recall the guy was smoking through the entire thing, and apparently, Batov asked him something about America—which, naturally, he had absolutely no clue about—but then he mentioned Davor Šuker (I think this was sometime around '98 or '99), and Alex actually perked up, shook his hand, and said something along the lines of "respect to you guys"... 🤣 It was one of those interviews that was just painfully cringeworthy. 😬

I think it’s pretty damn obvious that I listen to Nirvana. When I first heard them, they were just... different from anything else I’d ever put on my headphones—it was like a total shift in perspective. Honestly, my whole musical taste changed just because of them 😁.

I first checked them out when a buddy sent me Trimm Trabb just to show me what Zondo sampled on rađin truba. And honestly? That was it. Game over.

I’ve got their discography, but I’ve really only sat through Nirvana and 13 (know both of 'em front to back). I have huge respect for Albarn; haven't delved deep into his solo stuff yet beyond a few tracks—not enough to talk big about it—but I love him for gifting the world Gorillaz.

And yeah, the track Caramel is hands down one of the most inspiring things I've ever heard, while Tender is easily one of the most beautiful songs out there. It’s given me so many great, and even sad, memories that I can see so clearly whenever I close my eyes and just let the song take over.

I actually really enjoyed Albarnov's solo record, Everyday Robots. 👍
Though, I have to admit, I might be a little biased since I'm such a huge fan of Damon. 😍

A few days ago, they dropped the first song from the new record, The Magic Whip.
It was recorded in Hong Kong (as if that matters) and features 12 tracks.
Release date is April 27th. Besides the usual online pre-orders, you'll be able to pick up the album at all the decent record stores.😁
I was a little skeptical about the intro, Go Out, but after a few listens, it makes sense.
I think it'll be an okay album, even though it's been 12-13 years since their last great one, Think Tanak. And Coxon's guitar is back in the mix.
It seems to me that neither Albarn nor Coxon, as the main creative forces, are the types to just release anything. It’s like they’re being forced to.
They could have easily used their solo projects to keep filling Central Park once a year or playing festivals across America and the rest of the world—it's not like they lack the demand.
Maybe the chemistry is still there, or they just got the gang back together because they feel they actually have something worth offering.
Anyway, it would be nice if the brothers reunited too, so we can get Battle Vol.2 in 2015.😁

Go Out is honestly such a vibe. It totally reminds me of the Parklife album, but somehow it still feels fresh and new. I guess it's just great. 😬

I’m being a little hesitant here—I probably need some time to let this all sink in (if it even settles at all, I suppose). 😁And, naturally, I suppose one should leave some room for the rest of it.

Oh, no, no... 😲 That whole thing was so aggressively pushed by the media—honestly, it felt incredibly overhyped—that it actually leaves me a little uneasy to consider what kind of damage today's social media landscape might be capable of. 😁

I’m low-key hoping they extend the tour and maybe swing through New York City, Chicago, or even fly over to places like Vienna, Budapest, Munich, or Milan—anywhere, really 😢

Festivals don't mean much to me when I can't make it to any of them this year, unfortunately

Yeah, we’re looking at being closest to Luke—which is probably the worst possible spot to end up in Italy. We're talking at least a 10-hour haul just one way.
I’m crossing my fingers for somewhere closer, too. God forbid it’s the Boogeyman...🙂
