So, I'm 28 and generally in pretty good shape. Lately, though, running has started to kill. It's that bone pain right below the knee on both legs—about 4 inches above my feet, on the front side. Anyone know what that is?

I’ve started noticing a pattern where, whenever I go out for a run, I end up with pain in the exact same spot. It’s right on my shin, somewhere halfway between my knee and my foot, along the front side. It almost feels as though the bone itself is taking too much of the impact.

I run into those exact same issues whenever I try to power walk or go for a run.

I’m not entirely sure if I’ve posted this in the right section of the forum. I've been dealing with some bone and joint issues lately—it's pretty painful. The thing is, this kind of discomfort only flares up once or twice a year, so I wouldn't say I'm suffering from a chronic "illness" per se.
To make a long story short, it first started earlier this year. It was my left hip. At first, I just ignored it for about a month, thinking maybe it was just from sitting at my desk too much or spending too much time driving, but today the pain decided to spread a bit to my right hip and my lower back.
My doctor prescribed me some Advil, which does work pretty quickly, but the issue is how Advil makes me feel; it leaves me feeling all woozy, a little unsteady on my feet, and sort of disoriented.
I'm not really looking for a diagnosis here—my doctor isn't 100% sure what's going on yet either—but I was wondering if anyone who has been in a similar situation might be able to recommend a different medication that doesn't cause those kinds of side effects?
Also, do you guys have any tips for relief? Like, maybe certain types of exercises that actually help?

Thanks.

You really ought to figure out what you're actually dealing with first—especially before jumping into any exercise routines—just in case there’s an underlying issue with your spine. Tylenol is an option, though it can be pretty rough on the stomach. You could also try Motrin.

Hi everyone,

I started training Muay Thai about six months ago, and over the last few days, I’ve started noticing this strange pain right along my shin bone. I know for a fact it isn’t from a direct strike or a block—it doesn't feel like a bruise—but it hurts whenever I touch it, or when I put any kind of strain on it, like during running or jumping exercises.

The sensation feels a lot like inflammation; sometimes it just flares up for a few seconds and then subsides. I’m honestly at a loss as to what might be causing this, so I was wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar? If you have any insight into what this could be or how I can prevent it from getting worse, I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

It hasn't actually broken—there aren't any visible signs or anything to suggest there's a fracture—but I'm feeling this sharp, localized pain right at one specific spot on the bone, somewhere near the middle.

I picked up Muay Thai about six months ago, and over the last few days, I’ve started feeling this weird pain right along my shin bone. I know for a fact it isn't from a strike or a block, because it only hurts when I touch it or when I'm putting weight on it—like during running or jumping.

The sensation feels similar to inflammation. Sometimes it just flares up for a few seconds and then subsides. I have no idea what's causing it, so if anyone knows what this might be or how I can prevent it, I’d really appreciate some insight.

Thanks.

Those symptoms point directly toward MTSS (medial tibial stress syndrome), which is an incredibly common injury in Muay Thai. It's most likely caused by overtraining, inconsistent training schedules, or even just wearing the wrong footwear.

As for treatment: you're going to need to scale back the intensity. Avoid whatever activities are triggering the pain, specifically running and jumping. If the discomfort persists, try using ice packs and maybe some Tylenol. If you keep pushing through the pain and ignoring your limits, your recovery is going to take forever.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get an X-ray eventually, just to rule out a stress fracture in the tibia.

Hello everyone,

As the title suggests, I’m dealing with a certain kind of "pain" that is difficult to pin down, though it’s starting to weigh on my mind. It feels migratory—shifting from one part of my body to another without any obvious trigger. It feels skeletal at times, yet perhaps it's just muscular. One day it's my upper arm, then my knee, then a few fingers... it isn't localized to one spot; the discomfort simply wanders. It isn't an intense, sharp pain, more of a persistent, nagging unease. I'll admit, I tend toward anxiety and have a tendency to overthink my health, but this doesn't feel significant enough to warrant a trip to the doctor... or does it? I honestly can't tell anymore. If anyone here has dealt with something similar or has any insight into what this might be, I would appreciate hearing from you. 😢That's about all there is to say. 🤷Thanks.

rapidpilot5, you really should go see a doctor.
They’ll probably send you for some tests or maybe some blood work first.
It could be anything... bone inflammation, rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis... I'm just throwing things out there, honestly. It might even just be standard joint inflammation that's totally manageable with treatment.
Whenever my own rheumatic issues flare up, it’s this constant stinging sensation that just jumps from one spot to another. But, well, there are medications for it, so it's easier to deal with once you have something.

rapidpilot5,
did you make it to the doctor? Is that discomfort finally gone?

I've been dealing with this nagging ache in my ribs, legs, arms, and fingers for about six months now.
I can't quite tell if it's muscular or bone pain.
It just seems to flare up randomly.

🙂

Man, I've been dealing with this constant, nagging ache in my ribs, legs, arms, even my fingers... for six months straight now.
Honestly, I can't even tell if it's my muscles acting up or my bones.
It just hits me out of nowhere, totally random.

🙂

rapidpilot5, Mark Chavez3,
I've been feeling pretty much the exact same stuff for about two months. Up until lately, it only used to bother me at night when I was just chilling before bed. But recently, it's moved into my arm muscles and tendons whenever I'm actually doing something. And today? For the first time ever, I felt that same weirdness in my ribs. It's this pulsing, throbbing kind of discomfort.

My legs have been killing me lately, and I honestly can't tell if it's my bones or my muscles acting up. I’ve had blood work done and everything came back fine. I even did some tests to check for muscle inflammation, and those looked totally normal too. My vascular scans were clear as well. But despite all these "perfect" results, I am losing my mind over this pain. Sometimes it's an ache high up, sometimes it's both legs, or it settles right in my calves. It fluctuates between a dull discomfort and actual pain, and it's been going on for months now. I'm at a total loss here... does anyone have any advice or ideas?
