She’s already made up her mind about going to that specific doctor, and honestly, I’ve reached the point where I can't really sway her anymore... everyone says he's highly skilled, even if he does come across as a bit cold, which seems pretty obvious from what's been shared here. I suspect there might be some systemic issues at the hospital too, especially since she’s had such bad experiences with them in the past, and we don't exactly have many options since this is the only major medical center in our area—we aren't out in Washington, D.C. after all.
Everything you mentioned is exactly what I managed to dig up online, though it feels like that's really the extent of the information available. I'm still a little unsure about how that muscle involvement plays into things, specifically regarding how much that loss of tissue in her back actually impacts her, but the doctor did mention it shouldn't be an issue.🙄
He was also quite critical of the fact that they didn't leave enough skin coverage—I assume they used a certain type of implant during the initial surgery—and he felt they ended up removing way more tissue than was actually necessary... but I suppose what's done is done now.
Regarding the implant itself, from what I gather, silicone seems to be the only real option; it's not like they use saline or anything else. Based on my research into reconstruction, it looks like silicone is the standard, so there must be a good reason for that, even if it often leads to needing extra corrective procedures down the road.😢
My mom is leaning more towards the muscle-based procedure now because it avoids having a foreign object in her body, and the doctor seems to favor that route too. My main worry, though, is that her arm has been feeling weaker since the last surgery, and I can't help but wonder if messing with the muscle again will just make it worse. The doctor insists it won't, but I find myself wondering if I should actually take his word for it.
On the flip side, there's the idea of choosing the silicone and dealing with a foreign body inside her that could potentially leak or cause complications at any moment, which is already a lot to handle, not to mention the likelihood of needing more touch-ups. The doctor brushed it off by saying if it does leak, it can just be replaced, as if she hasn't already been through enough surgeries in her lifetime.🙄
If it were up to me, I’d love for her to skip any further surgery altogether, but she’s set on this, and if it makes her feel better, I don't think anyone can really tell her otherwise.😢
It really feels like nobody has any firsthand experience to share.😢
