Can I get blood work done without a doctor's referral?

I really need to get a standard blood and urine panel done as soon as possible, but I just can't seem to track down my doctor's referral in time. Is it actually possible to just walk in without a referral and pay out of pocket? If so, does anyone know roughly what the cost would be and how long it usually takes to get the results back? Also, I'm curious—how much would these same tests run me at a private lab like Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp?

So, a few years back, I paid about $67 for my CBC and urinalysis at a local Quest Diagnostics over in suburban Chicago...

Honestly, just head to the nearest clinic first thing tomorrow morning and get it done. You’ll probably have the results by the next day.

Mayo Clinic should have the results ready in a few hours—I suspect it’s around $17 though don't take my word for it😁. Give them a call and check for yourself.

Honestly, I really think you can run into situations like that at a local community health center, too. I actually remember this one incident where this totally irrational woman came in for a sinus scan and started demanding to be seen right away, basically insisting she should jump the line just because she was paying out of pocket instead of using insurance... let's just call it a local clinic.

In my town, they handle this stuff on Saturdays if you pay the $10 fee, but good luck finding anyone actually working there!
Results drop Monday after 6 PM.
