Can't reply to DMs

I’ve run into a bit of a snag. I got a DM from someone, but when I try to reply, I keep getting an error saying they've opted out of receiving private messages... does anyone know how I can get a hold of them?

"This user" has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove "this user" from the recipient list and send the message again.

I can drop their username here if that helps.

If he hasn't been banned yet, look at him turning gray
then he shouldn't be getting anything

Nope, I can actually see they’re online right now, but I can't even send them a DM. There's no email listed to reach out to, and I don't want to look rude by just staying silent 😁

I have no clue, maybe some settings got messed up

Just click on his username. You should see four different tabs pop up, and one of them ought to be "Send a private message to [username]." If that option isn't showing up, it just means he's gone ahead and blocked his DMs...

I actually went into my settings and enabled the option to "check a box" for stuff like this, so that’s probably why it happened

Anyway, if you can figure it out, you're a genius 🙂

I tried doing that, and I even tried hitting reply directly, but I keep getting this error

Maybe an Admin could let the user know? I can DM you the username privately—I could probably just drop it here too, but I don't want to put anyone on blast.😉

Look, if someone decides to turn off their DMs, they clearly know what they're doing—and why they're doing it 🤷

People have every right to choose who they talk to on a forum... it's not like we're forced to chat with everyone here 🙂

Nah, it’s not that, but I did put up a listing to sell something in one of my posts, and now someone is hitting me up asking for details, but I can't even reply... that's the issue. Otherwise, I don't really have any interest in chatting with anyone 😁

I took the exact same approach. I enabled private messages in my settings, but I made sure to check the box that limits them strictly to Moderators and the Admin. That way, the only people who can actually slide into my inbox are the staff, rather than just any random user on the forum.

I have my own specific reasons for limiting contact solely to the site administrators. 😳
