I’m not sure if this is just my internal clock acting up or if there’s an actual medical term for this kind of insomnia, so I’m curious to hear if anyone else deals with this.

Basically, I never hit the sack before midnight. Even if I somehow manage to pass out around 10 PM, I always find myself wide awake again right around midnight. My brain is basically a slug in the morning, but once night rolls around—especially between 11 PM and 2 AM—I’m suddenly firing on all cylinders. Honestly, I have no clue what's actually driving this.

I figured I’d jump in on this thread—I am a total night owl myself😁—my schedule is pretty much set in stone: I hit the hay somewhere between 1:00 and 2:00 AM and sleep until 6:00—it’s always like that. Honestly, it’s a bit of a leftover from my high school days when I was obsessed with astronomy and would spend endless nights just staring up at the stars😉—and if I accidentally crash early, say around 11:00 PM, I’ll end up wide awake by 4:00 AM feeling totally refreshed. It definitely feels tied to my internal rhythm, because I am a complete zombie in the mornings; sometimes when my husband drives me to work, I’m basically just an inanimate object in the passenger seat🤷—it’s funny, though—as soon as I go on vacation, my body immediately switches to "night mode." I’ll stay up until 3:00 AM but still wake up around 7:00 to go for a swim😲—and then I’ll take a nap between noon and 3:00 PM when the heat is at its peak😍
Sometimes I’ll start getting things done late at night—like prepping tomorrow's lunch after 10:00 PM—but you couldn't drag me out of bed to work in the morning if you tried. I love reading in the evenings, so a good book will easily keep me up until 3:00 AM—and not too long ago, I actually found myself playing World of Warcraft until 3:00 in the morning before dragging myself up at 7:00 for work🙄—(and yes, I am a serious adult and a mother😍)

On those nights when I’ve been awake far too long, I’ll just take a sleeping pill—get a solid seven hours of sleep, and then I can actually function again👍

People always claim you need to be asleep before midnight to actually get quality rest... though I’ve definitely had those stretches where I’d sleep from ten until six and somehow ended up feeling more exhausted than if I had just pulled an all-nighter.

I suppose some of us are just night owls, through and through.

I’m the exact same way... I’ll find myself meal prepping for the next day or deep cleaning my apartment late at night, yet by morning, I need a solid two hours just to stop feeling like a zombie before I can actually be productive or creative. The only difference is that during the day, I can basically sleep whenever I want. It’s just that window from noon to 4:00 PM that really messes with my head...

I feel like my internal clock is constantly spinning out of control. I used to be a total night owl, hitting the sack around 2 AM every single night, but now my body wants to crash at midnight. I’ll wake up around 9 AM, only to feel completely wiped out again just two hours later... then I end up napping from 1 PM to 5 PM. On top of that, I seem to need about 10 to 12 hours of sleep to feel human. Maybe it’s my low blood pressure acting up, but it all feels so strange.
