Hey everyone,
The issue is I just can't seem to get enough sleep—and before anyone says, "just go to bed earlier," 😁...
It doesn't matter if I nap during the day or stay up late, or if I manage an hour or a full twelve hours.
Even the mattress makes no difference—hard, soft, whatever...
I always wake up feeling like I haven't slept at all.
I’m a pretty light sleeper, too—I wake up easily, and even after what should be eight hours, I remember tossing and turning about four or five times.
But regardless, I'm constantly exhausted.
I've tried everything—chamomile tea, warm milk, even wearing myself out during the day just to crash like a log—but nothing works. I'll wake up feeling even more drained than before I went to bed.
This has been going on for two or three years now, and honestly, I'm at my wits' end.
The constant fatigue is killing me—my focus is shot, my memory is fading, and my grades have taken a hit. I'm irritable, picking fights with everyone, feeling sluggish, and the dark circles under my eyes are permanent. And the yawning... it never stops.
I even tried some sleeping pills; they helped for maybe the first two nights, but by the third, I was right back where I started. Please, help me out—I'm completely burnt out and I've honestly forgotten what it feels like to actually be rested. 🙂

I honestly think you’re just running on empty rather than actually being sleep-deprived.
What does a typical day look like for you?

I went through a phase like this once when my whole life was just staring at books, scrolling on my laptop, or bingeing TV... eating way too many heavy carbs and just living a really sluggish lifestyle.
I was getting plenty of sleep, but I still felt like a zombie all day long.

Try adding a bit more movement into the mix. It doesn't have to be a grueling workout—even just an hour of brisk walking can make a huge difference.
Watch out for too much caffeine and soda; sugar gives you that quick spike, but it'll leave you hanging. Also, try to force yourself to hit the sack at the same time every night.

On top of that, the heat can really drain you and make you feel lethargic. During those times, a quick afternoon nap—maybe thirty minutes to an hour—can be great for hitting the reset button.

I’m feeling the exact same way ☕
but I guess it’s probably because of what granitedriver40 mentioned—I'm basically glued to my computer from the second I wake up until I finally head to bed...

What does a normal day look like for you?

I went through something similar—mostly when my whole life revolved around staring at books, my laptop, or the TV... eating way too many carbs, just feeling generally sluggish.
Even though I was sleeping plenty, I still felt groggy all day long.

Maybe try adding a bit more movement—doesn't have to be intense, even just an hour of brisk walking should help.
Try cutting back on the caffeine and soda; sugar gives you that quick boost but then you crash. Also, try to stick to a consistent bedtime every night.

Plus, the heat can really drain you and make you feel lethargic. In those cases, a quick afternoon nap—maybe thirty minutes to an hour—can actually help reset things.

it actually started happening right when
I was playing basketball...
and I even hit the gym for a while just to try and tire myself out
but it didn't really do much...
otherwise, I stay pretty active—I'll head to the local pool and swim a couple of miles—but nope, it's still the same.

It happens to some people—you sleep way too much and somehow end up feeling even more exhausted and groggy than before you hit the sack. Have you ever tried just pulling a three-hour stint? Maybe that’s actually your sweet spot...

Yeah, I've been there... ended up passing out right in the middle of a coffee date with a girl I was seeing—not my finest moment, for sure.🤣🤣

I’m thinking you might be dealing with some anemia—you know, that pesky iron deficiency where your levels just aren't where they need to be. Honestly, my best advice would be to head over to your doctor, get some blood work done, and see if they can prescribe a proper iron supplement. I’d also highly recommend looking into something like a high-quality multivitamin or an energy booster—think along the lines of a daily vitamin regimen—to help kickstart things. It’s a bit of a marathon rather than a sprint, though; you usually have to stick with the treatment for about four months to really see the shift, but it truly works—it’s how I managed to get my own iron levels back on track!

To be honest, my iron levels are pretty much trashed... My doctor was actually surprised I could even stay on my feet—honestly, I'm surprised too—and he prescribed some pills and whatnot, but they didn't really do much for me.

Look, man, don't mess around with those pills—go find something else. Otherwise, just try hitting the sack early, say around 11 PM, and make sure you aren't dragging on past 5 AM. Whatever you do, stay away from naps after 5 PM. Also, keep the blinds up; let that natural sunlight flood into the house. You should also splash yourself with cold water a few times a day—your face, hands, head, all the way down to your elbows and your legs down to your ankles. It’ll help get that circulation moving again.

It’s quite possible that iron deficiency is what's driving that fatigue you're feeling... I would suggest heading back to your doctor to discuss adjusting your prescription, and perhaps focusing more on a diet rich in iron, as I personally struggled with those exact same issues.
Beyond that, it could also stem from your nutritional habits or simply a lack of physical activity, as you've already been advised.

Besides anemia, which is a highly likely culprit, you might also be dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome or perhaps even subclinical depression...
