Changing my residency address!?

Hey there! Quick question—how long does it usually take to get my residency application processed? Also, can I just handle everything in the city where I actually want to live? Like, can they just cancel my old address and set up the new one all at once right there?

I’m gonna paste this snippet from the Department of Homeland Security website here just so someone can double-check if I'm reading this right... 🙂

A residency application is submitted to the local Police Department or Police Station that has jurisdiction over the area where the citizen is registering their new home. That specific Police Department/Police Station will then handle de-registering the previous address.

So, following that, would I be able to head straight to the local records office in that new city to pick up a new birth certificate or some other official paperwork? Thanks in advance for the help!

As far as I know—regardless of where you actually live now—you have to head back to your place of birth to pull those citizenship papers and birth certificates.

Well, that’s not necessarily true if you were just born in Germany and have been living there your whole life. Someone told me before that you can actually pull those documents from wherever you're officially registered.
