Chasing Amy (1997)

So, this is actually the first Kevin Smith movie I've sat down to watch. Usually, I can't stand romantic comedies—they just don't do anything for me—but for some reason, this one actually hit me right in the feels. I guess I still haven't quite figured out why.

What’s everyone else's take on this one?

If it weren't for that little Amy character with her grating, fake-sweet, high-pitched voice drilling into your ears, this movie would actually be a lot better.😁

The guy at the start is absolutely unhinged.
Jason Lee is in his absolute prime here.
The rest of the cast is pretty mediocre, but the movie still holds up. 👍

I remember feeling like she was constantly breaking through the sound barrier. And once she starts crying? When she hits those emotional lows? It’s just brutal. 😁

Aside from that, the film actually wasn't bad at all.

..yeah, she really does have a strangely intense vocal frequency. But hey, what can you do—it's not like she had a choice

In my opinion, this is Kevin Smith's absolute best work—it's actually the one movie that made me stop hating on Ben Affleck.

Personally, I think The Merchant is a much better movie... But man, Chasing Amy is absolutely legendary! 😎

Yeah... still waiting to see what happens with the retailers. They just pushed the filming back again, now it's set for this fall.

As for Chasing Amy, that’s definitely his best work after the retailer stuff.

I’m actually a fan of that specific sense of humor.
The whole movie is just so much fun and easy to digest—it honestly feels like reading a graphic novel.

I'm not feeling it. I'd much rather watch Mall Rats, or honestly, even dogma.

😁 Personally, I’ve always found Mall Rats to be superior, and even dogma holds more weight for me, though I can't deny that Chasing Amy is an excellent film in its own right; honestly, the more times I sit through it, the better it gets. I’m also inclined to agree that it stands as the finest performance of Jason Lee’s career.
