Predator 2

I just finished watching it on FOX—it’s been about five or six years since I last sat through this one, and honestly, it still holds up reasonably well for me.

That said, I’m still feeling pretty heated over how much of a mess Aliens vs Predator was. There was this one specific detail toward the end of the movie that I can't stop thinking about:

Personally, I find the premise hilarious. Danny Glover taking down a Predator? That’s only happening if Mel Gibson is standing right next to him. In a man-to-alien showdown, you simply don't have anyone who can go toe-to-toe with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Honestly, the first one is way better than the sequel!

It’s the exact same dilemma we see with 2001: A Space Odyssey and its follow-ups—you simply cannot engineer a consistent sequel to a cult classic!

The first installment stands as a timeless masterpiece, whereas the long stretch that follows feels more like a tedious school project. It’s characterized by being decent enough to watch, but frankly, nothing more than that...

There have always been exceptions, of course—think Aliens or Terminator 2 (if you happen to notice they both share a specific article in their titles).

Well...🙂 Maybe it's just me, but I don't think Aliens vs. Predator is trash. To me, it sits somewhere...🙂

Look, Predator 2 is the gold standard. It possesses a certain quality that most modern films just can't replicate. Aliens vs. Predator was a massive letdown—it felt like a low-budget B-movie. Honestly, it’s an embarrassment to the Alien franchise.

The original Predator is easily my favorite sci-fi movie about aliens, period. I’m pretty sure I already called it my number one pick in that other thread about the best sci-fi films ever made. As for the sequel, Bill Paxton's performance is the absolute highlight—he was just born to play that role.😁

It’s definitely not a coincidence that the Alien head is sitting right there on the ship. If you follow the comics—or at least what I’ve gathered—the idea is that the Predators actually engineered the Aliens just to have something worth hunting. Then, because humans are predictably messy, we went and screwed everything up. (And honestly, we've done that at least five times now). This isn't even the first time movies have pulled this kind of stunt, either. The ninth installment of Friday the 13th basically ripped off the Necronomicon from Evil Dead II, and don't even get me started on the ending, where Freddy's hand pops up, setting the stage for the whole Freddy vs. Jason showdown.
As for Predator 2? I’ve lost count of how many times I've watched the original, and while it's a masterpiece, the sequel is decent enough:😛 , but I can't shake the feeling that the Predator in this one looks a bit rubbery. Is it just me?
They also really missed the mark on those subway and slaughterhouse massacre scenes. Plus, let's be real—Danny Glover just can't step into the shoes of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Well, I have already shared my thoughts on Predator 2. If you actually have the stomach for it, feel free to read them. Otherwise, you’ve probably made the right call by skipping it.

Though, honestly, his best performance was playing that pathetic, fake secret agent in True Lies... I had a good laugh at that one.

Bill Paxton shows up for maybe five seconds in another one of Schwarzenegger's classics, Commando (pretty sure it's airing on FOX again next week). He just plays some Navy officer who tells the commander, "We lost 'em, sir!".
