JPMorgan Chase doesn't charge any fees for checking accounts.

At JPMorgan Chase, there aren't any fees for a checking account—not for opening it, nor for maintaining it. I can't speak for every single bank out there, but following that kind of logic, you shouldn't be seeing charges anywhere, or at least not in most major institutions. You might want to double-check things over at Bank of America; perhaps those $1.75 you saw were actually for a savings account rather than a standard checking one.

Hi there! I currently have $0.00 in my checking account. I'm looking to set up a PayPal account and need to link my debit card (an Intel card). Since I'll be transferring money into my own account myself, I was wondering if there are any tax implications or fees just for having those funds sitting there? I don't know much about how this works, so I'd really appreciate some clarity. 🕺

If you're $3333 years old and still a student, or $15833 even if you aren't, you really don't need to lose any sleep over taxes or anything of that nature regarding your checking account.

Hey... quick question about checking accounts. I'm not entirely sure, so I'm asking—I’ve checked online, but I want to know if there's any way to stay out of trouble if I open an account in my own name just to handle someone else's money? Like, if their paycheck lands in my account? Also, can you actually go into a negative balance on a standard checking account? Thanks.

Hey, I just pulled $200 from an online poker game. I deposited about $10 using my checking account at JPMorgan Chase (they handle the currency conversion from USD automatically), so I’m wondering if I can just withdraw that $200 without any issues. Does anyone know if they flag these things for taxes or anything? For context, I also have my $3000 coming into that same account
.

Hi there, can someone clarify something for me? If I open a checking account and, say, a relative transfers a chunk of cash to me—let's say around $50 $0.00—will the IRS come knocking for taxes? Do I actually need to file any paperwork or anything similar?

Look, I’m not sure how many people here actually follow the nuances of tax law, but I am looking for an answer exclusively from those who are intimately familiar with this specific scenario and can provide a concrete response. Today, I went into my local bank to open a checking account, and the representative informed me that under the current regulations, these types of accounts are now subject to automated fiscal monitoring. I only opened this account because I have some miscellaneous items I'm looking to offload, and I plan on listing everything on eBay. What I really need to know is this: am I technically liable for taxes on these sales, even if we are talking about negligible amounts? If someone sends small payments directly into my checking account, does the IRS flag those tiny transactions? Furthermore, is there any legitimate way to receive these funds without triggering a tax liability? I need to ensure that the cost of settling any potential tax bill doesn't completely wipe out the profit from selling these items online. Thanks in advance.

Why are you making your own life harder than it needs to be? 😵 Forget the damn checking account. If you don't have another account, people can just send money to a prepaid card or something.

Hi everyone,
I’m running into some issues with account maintenance fees at JPMorgan Chase. To give you the short version, I have a checking account, and since the start of this year, I also opened a current account. When I just had the basic account, the fee was only $0.00 for management (which I mostly use just to receive my scholarship). However, once the current account was set up, the representative who helped me open everything initially told me I’d qualify for some student discounts. But then, a couple of days later, I got a call from JPMorgan Chase saying I don't actually qualify because I only have a local mailing address rather than permanent residency here in the US. Then, out of nowhere, I get my statement and—bam—there's a charge of $5.00 for account maintenance (about $2.25 for the current account plus an extra charge for being part of a JPMorgan Chase group $2.75). There was absolutely no mention of this when I signed everything up. Can someone please explain what this "group membership" thing even is? 😢. From what I can tell, it's an annual fee of $60 that nobody bothered to explain to me.

Everything you need to know about checking accounts is HERE
The monthly maintenance fee is $2.25.
If you're one of those $2.75 types, just call Chase at 1-800-365-365 on Monday

Is it actually possible to set up a checking account held by four different individuals? Here’s the deal: we want to be able to deposit money into the account, but I want to make sure nobody can withdraw a single cent without everyone else agreeing first.
