Child's Play (2019)

The new Chucky feels totally artificial—way too much reliance on CGI. In the original film, there was something visceral about having an actual physical doll on screen. Plus, the original Chucky had this unsettling innocence at the start before the serial killer's spirit takes over. This version? It’s clearly just going to be a bloodbath for the sake of it, which is pretty much the standard playbook for these modern remakes.

Either way, I’m really looking forward to it. I can already picture the vibe—curled up in a dark theater on some rainy evening, probably around 10 p.m., just soaking in the atmosphere.

Honestly, I don't know... looks like just another unnecessary remake to me. That CGI is seriously hard to watch—it’s practically jumping off the screen in the worst way possible. People will probably still flock to see it, but if you ask me, Chucky's time has definitely passed.

I realize Mark Hamill carries much more star power, but I honestly think Brad Dorf is the superior actor, and for most people, he’ll be the definitive face of Chucky. I’m planning to check out this new movie just out of pure curiosity, though I find myself much more excited for the upcoming Child's Play TV series that picks up right where Cult of Chucky left off.

In the upcoming remake, we aren't looking at a doll possessed by some killer's ghost; instead, it’s just going to be a rogue robot doll that completely loses its mind.

Is Chucky going to hit our theaters here?

I can't find any info anywhere—plus, the US isn't even listed on the country list over on IMDb 😠 so I'm assuming it won't be happening, unfortunately.

If Annabelle can get a release, then Chucky should be able to as well. 🤔

Honestly, Chucky is a hundred times cooler than that total snooze-fest. ☕

Then how can you even call it Chucky? 🤷 If you strip away the paranormal elements, the movie basically turns into Five Nights at Freddy's.

Because he’s a doll with a penchant for murder. Honestly, he might even be "scarier"—if you can call him scary to anyone over twelve—simply because a rogue, murderous robot is a totally plausible scenario in this day and age. A possessed doll? Not so much.
That said, I agree with the sentiment: if they aren't hitting the heights of the original Chucky trilogy, they probably shouldn't bother making any more.

Watched it. It was alright, I guess... just a quick, decent little flick.

The doll's design is a joke. Chucky is just some glitchy robot now. In the original, you had an actual person trapped inside a doll's body.
As for the comedy? Not funny. And the kids' behavior was brain-dead, even by their age.

Just finished watching it and man, I gotta say, it was honestly pretty terrible.

The doll's design works for me. It feels a bit wooden and lacks sufficient malice, but that actually makes it more believable as an actual toy someone would buy.

Chucky is a flawed doll, but the concept of time remains more convincing. This shifts the narrative away from a simple ghost story toward something that could theoretically happen in reality. Adding a camera to the doll is a brilliant move; it gives him leverage to blackmail a kid. Besides, who would actually believe a child claiming their doll is evil?

The movie was funny. Maybe I was just in a good mood. 🤷

Kids act stupidly in movies. It’s constant. Honestly, it’s such a tired trope that I can't even be angry about it anymore.

I found the movie genuinely good, even great. It was highly entertaining and a legitimate horror film. There were moments that were truly terrifying. The Final Act was excellent. I realize most people won't like it, which is a shame. My impression is they will keep churning out Chucky movies, but since they go straight to video, they are guaranteed to be garbage.

Every single movie is crafted with a specific audience in mind.
And this one? It definitely isn't meant for anyone over 18.☕

Honestly? I'm having a hard time buying that. That's pretty much the core of my issue with this movie.

The original doll looks like a normal doll.
The redesigned one looks like a deformed potato.

Thinking some kid would actually want this, and a parent would actually pull out their credit card, gives me a massive case of suspension of disbelief.

Honestly, the doll doesn't look nearly as terrifying in the actual movie as it does in that photo; it looks like some rushed, cheap knockoff they slapped together just for the marketing campaign!
By the way, the movie itself is actually pretty decent and a fun watch.
