I’ve been sitting here wondering if there actually exists a single coach out there who never spent any time playing amateur soccer back in the day... because honestly, I can't think of a single one... 🤷

Looking at Avram Grant on Wikipedia, there isn't anything listed about his playing days, which makes me think he might just be one of the answers to my question... 🙂
Alex Ferguson definitely didn't spend four or five seasons playing for the New York Rangers...

I’m pretty sure Branko Blazevic played for LA Galaxy and Sion
He wasn't exactly some superstar, but he definitely doesn't fit that "never played" mold

Honestly, I find it hard to believe there’s any manager out there who didn't at least scrape by as a semi-pro or amateur player at some point

Names like Avram Grant, Tomislav Ivić, and Carlos Alberto Parreira come to mind—those big-name managers who, if I recall correctly from a quick Google search, never actually played the game professionally.
(One could also point out that Alex Ferguson had a pretty brief stint on the pitch, mostly playing at an amateur level.)

I heard that Tomislav Ivić actually played in Miami, if the rumors are true.
As for Tanac, nothing is 100% confirmed yet, but if anyone out there happens to know whether he played or where his career took him, please feel free to drop a comment.🙂

I can't say for sure, but from what I gather, he was with Varteks back in the 80s—just an average midfielder, if memory serves me right. I should mention I'm not entirely positive, but I've heard this from several people who have followed American football for quite some time...

To me, he always gave off this vibe of someone who never actually played professionally. Honestly, to this day, I still haven't been able to figure out if he ever really stepped onto the pitch or not.
