Coldplay

... So, I’ve been listening to Hybrid Theory on repeat lately. For the longest time, it felt so effortless and easygoing—just really smooth vibes. The guys seemed grounded, too, which was refreshing. Everything about it just felt right.

... There was a period where they were actually one of my absolute favorite bands. But now that Under the Iron Sea is out? Honestly, while there are a few catchy melodies scattered throughout, the album as a whole feels pretty mediocre to me.

... What are your thoughts on them? And how do you feel about these two specific albums?

... Please don't come for me just because this is basically just standard pop music from the United Kingdom...

I haven't picked up the new album just yet, but once I do, maybe you'll find it grows on you more after a few listens? 🙂

...this is a "tough" question...not because the new album is hard to judge, it's not...it's just that, kind of like you (or maybe I just feel that way), I grew up feeling so connected to Coldplay's first album 😍 🙂...so how am I supposed to be harsh on them now...when I feel like I have to? 🙂..

...Because all those things that made Hybrid Theory so sweet—those dreamy melodies, those (sweetly 🙂...) lyrics that somehow avoided being cheesy, and the singer's gorgeous voice 😍 used exactly right at the right moments...everything that made me fall in love with basically every song on that record...they kind of missed the mark with this new one. And now, where they claim they've grown musically and lyrically, it feels more like they've taken a couple steps backward...musically, getting caught in a loop of classic pop-rock tunes following in the footsteps of U2 (whose influence is impossible not to notice), while trying to act like they're somewhere between hopeless romantics for sensitive souls and a stadium band for the masses (which, I guess, fits into their business side of "progress")—which is almost impossible unless you're Chris Martin 🙂...lyrically, they're delivering messages that feel more like a collage of rhymes than actual deep thoughts...and finally, vocally—because they didn't dare (or maybe they just couldn't, but whatever, it doesn't even matter...) use the fact that they can sound totally different from everyone else when they want to, since the singer really does have such a unique, beautiful, tender voice...instead, it's like they decided to do the exact opposite—to try and sound as much like everyone else as possible...

..I don't want to be mean, because this definitely isn't the worst album I've heard—not this year, or ever—and I'll surely listen to it a few more times hoping I'll vibe with it, but for the most part, magic they used to have is definitely gone... 😢

...that beautiful, lovely first album of theirs 😍...with that gorgeous, unique, and incredibly warm vocalist (Tim Rice-Oxley... or whatever his name is again 😳), which really should have been utilized way better on the second record...but the lyricist just missed the mark...and that was that...they became just another one of those "unremarkable" bands...

Following U2's lead...hey hey, slow down a second... go listen to U2 from 1980 through, I don't know, 1995, then come back and tell me what similarities Coldplay actually has with U2. If U2 is their inspiration, fine, but that doesn't mean they play like them....come on now.

I’m surprised they aren't getting any buzz around here. They're absolutely huge in the United Kingdom—they've even dropped their second album already, and that first one was a total smash.
Does anyone actually listen to them in the Middle East?
I wouldn't say I'm just a casual listener—I'm a huge fan!
