Computer literacy certification exam

So, apparently, there’s this new prerequisite floating around for getting hired—passing an ECDL starter pack consisting of four exams. I’m sitting here wondering if my eyes are playing tricks on me, or if I actually have to cough up 600-$233 just to pass the thing.
I mean, come on. If it were 200... maybe. But 600? Give me a break.

Honestly, look $200 it’s such a small price to pay if you've already got a job waiting for you on the other side... And honestly, those courses are a total breeze, especially those first four exams covering Windows basics, Word, Excel, and just general internet stuff

The only thing I can actually remember from all that studying is the cocktails they served at the graduation parties 😁

Well... I have a job lined up regardless—mostly because I’m in a high-demand field where they can't afford to turn people away—but honestly, demanding an ECDL is pure idiocy. It’s literally just the absolute fundamentals. Everyone of us who finished our degrees already proved we could handle PowerPoint, Word, and digging through academic databases during our undergrad years just to put together basic seminars.

I just wrapped up all seven exams, and I’m only 15 years old. Honestly, this is going to be a massive advantage for me later on. It wasn't even a big deal for me to drop a few thousand dollars to make it happen ( $200 CDs, $60 exam fees for all seven, $98 my student ID, plus $33 the annual membership fee ). I’d much rather sink my money into this than waste it on anything else. On top of passing everything, my professor actually brought me on to help manage his website, so I might even pull in a little side income to help cover the costs. It’s worth it—just go for it.

But look... you’re actually in IT, so I assume there's some actual value in a Cisco Networking Academy course for you (hopefully)—which means that certificate might actually carry some weight (especially with an employer)

I mean, is it even fair to make that a requirement for people who just finished a computer science degree? You spend three whole years grinding through all those classes during college, and that knowledge is supposed to be your fundamental toolkit... and then on top of having the actual diploma, they still demand this extra stuff. It’s just frustrating...

Honestly, why does everything have to be such a heavy ordeal? 😕 I was referring to the older generation—you know, the ones actually footing the bill—but I suppose I should speak on behalf of my family more broadly.
