CPU and RAM issues

I've got an IBM System/370 laptop running with 4GB of RAM. Even though I haven't installed anything besides macOS—and there's definitely no malware on here—it’s crawling. I just did a fresh install, yet the system is still sluggish. It shows about 69% memory usage and CPU spikes up to 51%, but at times the memory hits 99%, making the machine practically unusable.
It feels like there are background processes eating up all my resources, but again, I haven't downloaded a single thing and this is a clean macOS installation.
I have no idea what the issue is.

If you're running Windows 7, make sure you grab all the latest updates. Honestly, getting Service Pack 1 installed is the absolute big one. But if you've moved up to Windows 10, just double-check that you're on the Home edition—you don't want to be stuck with some heavy-duty Enterprise version meant for big corporations and stuff.

You should probably grab CrystalDiskInfo to check on how that hard drive is holding up—it’s pretty straightforward once you get it running. Once it's installed, it’ll give you a color-coded status—blue, yellow, or red—to show you if things are looking good or if you're heading for trouble. Everything is blue except for one single yellow spot.
